After making peace with Disney, YouTube TV is making it rain for lost subscribers

After a lengthy saga that felt unnecessary from the users’ standpoint, YouTube and Disney finally inked a new multi-year distribution agreement, putting an end to the roughly two-week-long content blackout that left subscribers without access to ESPN, ABC, and other channels.

For Google, though, the feud resulted in an inevitable customer churn, and it’s now boasting its checkbook in an attempt to win back users that fled.

It’s worth noting that last week, YouTube TV had already offered a $20 service credit as an apology for Disney’s channels being off the service for an extended period of time. The credit was for loyal users that stuck through the feud.

Now, essentially incentivizing those who took flight over fight, YouTube is luring back users that canceled their subscription during the Disney blackout by giving them a $60 discount.

The aggressive re-acquisition promotion, which was first highlighted by user sdiori on Reddit (via 9to5Google), gives users $60 off their first month’s bill upon resubscribing. For reference, YouTube TV’s base plan costs $82.99. The re-acquisition promotion essentially brings returning customers’ first month bill down to just $22.99.

It’s worth noting that the promotion hasn’t made its way to all that had canceled their subscription. Although several commenters have confirmed receiving an email to claim the discount, many also shared that they have yet to see the email come through, making it unclear whether this is a targeted offer or a wider one.
