PlayStation Portal Remote Gaming Handheld Gets Nice Black Friday Price Cut

Sony has a month-long promotion running on its PlayStation games and hardware, just in time for Black Friday and the holiday season. One of the devices on sale is its handheld game-streaming unit, the PlayStation Portal, which is going for $179 (was $200). Available in two colors–Midnight Black and White–the handheld merges a sharp display with a DualSense Controller to let you stream games over Wi-Fi. While you originally needed a PS5 console to use it, a recent update unlocked full cloud-streaming capabilities for the PS Portal.

The PS Portal has an 8-inch LCD screen, and the attached controller grips offer the same haptic feedback and adaptive triggers found on the DualSense controller. Sony has also updated the device to make switching between cloud streaming and remote play from your PS5 easier. As long as you have a strong Wi-Fi connection, you’ll be able to play any of the games in your PlayStation library. Cloud streaming does require a PS Plus Premium membership, and nearly 3,000 games support the feature.

PlayStation Link technology, developed for the PS Portal, allows for low latency and lossless audio. PlayStation’s Pulse Explore Earbuds and Pulse Elite Headset have PlayStation Link and are an ideal audio option for anyone who picks up the PlayStation Portal deal. Pulse Explore Wireless Earbuds are discounted to $169 (was $200), while the Pulse Elite Headset is down to $129 (was $150).

The White model has the same specs as the Midnight Black version and simply offers a color option that closely matches the PS5–unless you swap out the white console covers with Midnight Black or one of the more colorful designs.

The PS Portal can also connect seamlessly to several PlayStation accessories, including the aforementioned Pulse Explore Earbuds and Pulse Elite Headset. Both are wireless audio options for PlayStation hardware, and both are on sale. Available in White and Midnight Black, the Pulse Explore earbuds are $169 (was $200) and come with six earbud tips for a better fit. They support PS5 audio features like Tempest 3D Audio, include two hidden microphones for chat, and can run for up to five hours on a full charge.

The Pulse Elite headset is discounted to $129 (was $149) and offers strong battery life and high-quality audio. The over-ear headset supports spatial audio, features a retractable mic, and uses premium materials for the earcups. It comes with several accessories, including the PlayStation Link adapter, USB-C cable, charging hanger, and mounting plate.

If you don’t have a PS Plus Premium subscription, the PS Portal will only be able to stream games via Remote Play from your PS5 console. Sony has discounted all of its PS5 console models, and you can get one for as little as $450 for when you want to switch to a big screen for your gaming.

Almost every PS5 exclusive game is also on sale currently, including recent releases like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Lost Soul Aside. Sony has also given several of its older exclusives substantial discounts, with prices ranging from $20 – $30 for games like God of War Ragnarok, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.

PS5 owners can save $20 on all DualSense controllers during Sony’s holiday sale. This special extends to the limited-edition Astro Bot Joyful, God of War 20th Anniversary, and Ghost of Yotei with gold or black accents controllers, and the sale runs through December 18. Like last year, the chances that several of these controllers will sell out before the promotion ends remain high, so you’ll want to click the link below to see if anything catches your eye.

And if you want your console controller to have more customization options, check out the DualSense Edge, which is on sale for $169 (was $200).
