New Pokemon Sword And Shield Event Now Live, And It Features Another Shiny Pokemon

September 18, 2020

A new Max Raid event has begun in Pokemon Sword and Shield. To commemorate the seasonal equinox, Pokemon that evolve via Sun or Moon Stones are appearing more frequently in Max Raid dens across the Wild Area and Isle of Armor, and you’ll have a chance to encounter Shiny Clefable in the Raids. You’ll need to act fast, however, as the event only runs through this weekend.

Until September 20, 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET, the following Pokemon will be featured in Max Raid battles across both Sword and Shield:

  • Clefable
  • Wigglytuff
  • Musharna
  • Bellossom
  • Whimsicott
  • Lilligant

As previously mentioned, you’ll also have a chance to encounter a Shiny Clefable in five-star Raids. In order for the event Pokemon to begin appearing in your game, you’ll first need to refresh your Raid dens. You can do this either by connecting the Y-Comm online or going into Mystery Gift from the menu screen and selecting Get the Wild Area News.

Once the equinox event ends, Pokemon Sword and Shield’s other Max Raid event will resume. That one runs until September 30 and features certain Grass and Electric Pokemon, including Ferrothorn, Eldegoss, Heliolisk, Boltund, and their pre-evolved forms. Pokemon Sword players can also encounter Gigantamax versions of Appletun and Low Key Form Toxtricity, while Shield players will be more likely to find Gigantamax Flapple and Amped Form Toxtricity.

Beyond that, Pokemon Sword and Shield’s second expansion, The Crown Tundra, is still on the way. While the DLC does not yet have a release date, it is slated to launch this fall, and it will take players to a new arctic region where they’ll encounter new and returning Legendary Pokemon and be able to explore Raid dens. The Pokemon Company recently shared a brief new trailer for The Crown Tundra that highlighted some of the returning Legendaries. You can read more about the upcoming expansion in our roundup of everything we know about Pokemon Sword and Shield’s DLC.
