Apple TV on Android finally gets a feature we’ve all been waiting

It’s been a few years since Apple launched its own streaming service, and while the content library isn’t as deep as some of its competitors, it does tend to have some alluring programming. Of course, Android fans were left in the dark for many years, with Apple just recently releasing the Apple TV app for Android.

And while it was good enough, it was missing one huge feature — the ability to Google Cast. Thankfully, Apple is dropping one last thing to close out the year, which is the ability to Google Cast from the Apple TV app on Android (via 9to5Google).

A nice addition

While Apple TV is already available on most streaming platforms, it’s nice to be able to just play stuff from your phone and cast it to whatever Google Cast compatible devices are in the room. As you might expect, there’s not a huge change when it comes to the app, but there will be a new button that will allow you to cast on pretty much every screen within Apple TV.

The usual controls

Once you start the casting process, you will be shown controls like play, pause, rewind, and fast-forward. You’ll also get controls for subtitles and audio preferences as well. So, if this is something that you’ve been looking forward to, we recommend grabbing the latest update for the Apple TV app from the Google Play Store, which comes in as version 2.2.

Apple TV content

Although Apple TV may not have a massive library like Netflix, it does have some notable shows that have gained quite a bit of traction with viewers. Perhaps one of the largest hits of the year is going to be F1 Movie, which is now available to stream, along with a new show from the creator of Breaking Bad called Pluribus.

The streaming service also offers some critically acclaimed shows like Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Slow Horses, but does have something for pretty much everyone. If you haven’t tried it before, we recommend checking it out, at least during the trial period, to see what the fuss is about. Unfortunately, Apple isn’t so generous with its trial period, providing only a seven-day stretch, so you’ll want to make it count.
