Google’s Nest app has its days numbered, but before the company fully phases out the app, it wants to ensure a smooth migration to Google Home. The Mountain View tech giant started the migration process way back in 2023, but until earlier this month, it wasn’t the easiest to move Nest devices to the Google Home app.
Google quietly addressed this in the December 10 Google Home app update, the changelog of which the company published only a few hours ago (via Android Authority). The latest Google Home update is a small one, but it introduces a new and easier way to move your Nest devices to the Google Home app.

Ever since the migration began, we have heard numerous complaints from users on Reddit expressing the pain points associated with migrating to the Google Home app. Many of those were due to compatibility issues, which Google tried to address by adding support in the Google Home app for Nest cameras, thermostats, locks, and smoke alarms released in 2015 or later.
If you have any of those Nest devices, it’s now super easy to migrate them from the Nest app to the Google Home app with just a tap. Of course, you’ll need the December 10 update for this work. While it’s good news for those who were facing issues with migration, the one-tap transfer is currently limited to select users.
To be more specific, the single-tap transfer feature is available only for those Google Home users who are enrolled in the Public Preview program. This means it is still in the pre-release phase, but it’s closer than ever to getting a stable release. So, if you’re in the Public Preview program, don’t be surprised if you experience any glitches while transferring Nest devices to the Google Home app using the feature.
Google hasn’t specified when the single-tap transfer feature will be available to all Google Home users, so if you aren’t enrolled in the Public Preview program, we might have to wait weeks or even months to get the new feature. If you haven’t migrated from Nest to Google Home due to missing features, it’s best to wait until all Nest features and devices become available in the Google Home app for everyone.
