YouTube makes a big change in the way you’ll see content

YouTube introduced some pretty big changes last year, and it doesn’t look like its stopping anytime soon. Going forward, users will now have access to more “effective advanced search tools” in order to help them find what they are really looking for. Perhaps one of the biggest changes is the ability to filter content types, which now includes Shorts.

You can finally find what you’re looking for

While you might not ever use it, YouTube does provide a search filter if you’re looking for a specific content. The previous content types included: Videos, Channels, Playlists, and Movies. With YouTube’s huge push into Shorts over the past couple of years, it was only a matter of time before Shorts was added to the filter list.

The only surprising part is that it took this long for the change to arrive. Another change you’ll probably notice is that the Sort By section will now be renamed to the Priority section. Furthermore, the selections in this section have now been more streamlined, with just two options going forward, sorting by Relevance or Popularity.

Previously, you had the option to sort by Relevance, Upload date, View count, and Rating. YouTube shares that the View count option has been replaced with Popularity. It’s unclear if the other options will come back, but since this is Google we’re talking about, there’s always the chance that this will all change.

It’s removing things too

With that said, YouTube does highlight that it is also removing some features in its latest update. As mentioned before, Upload date is no longer an option, along with Sort by and Last Hour.

For most people, these changes aren’t going to be noticeable. But, if you’re someone that deep dives into search settings on a daily basis, this is going to take some getting used to.

For the most part, it should allow for more concise search options, and to make it easier to find what you’re really looking for. The changes should be rolled out to everyone, but if you don’t see them yet, just be patient.

We are currently seeing it on one of our accounts, but not the others. The changes should be across the YouTube webpage and apps, so keep an eye out.
