The Galaxy S26 Ultra might change where and how you communicate

We’ve been hearing a ton of news about Samsung’s upcoming phones, and while they may be similar in appearance to what we’ve seen in the past, it looks like the brand is trying to step things up in the features department. While a majority of the information is coming from leaks and rumors, Samsung did hint at some impressive screen technology set to arrive on future Galaxy devices.

In addition to the above, it looks like Samsung could reportedly be working on native satellite communication built into its phones, which was discovered by the folks at SamMobile. The news outlet found documentation about the upcoming Galaxy S26 series in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database, which shows that these phones will support satellite communication.

This is a very good thing

Now, it doesn’t look like there are hard details about the phones will be able to do, but SamMobile takes a shot by stating that the new phones will be able to potentially call and text using satellite connectivity. The new phones will use technology from Skylo, which has been the backbone for other devices using satellite communications.

Now, we’ve seen satellite texting for Samsung and other products in the past, like with T-Mobile’s T-Satellite service. Verizon also has its own service that allows for communication with compatible hardware and devices as well. The latter part is interesting if you were a Verizon customer, because it made it possible for you to connect using satellite on your Galaxy S25 phone.

Will this be game-changing?

So, how is all of this going to differ? Well, there’s a good chance that it might not really change anything. We haven’t really seen an independent satellite service feature that’s functional regardless of where you are in the US and what carrier you use, except for the iPhone.

And since there aren’t many details in the FCC listing, the new Galaxy S26 phones could just connect in the same ways, like in the past. However, let’s hope that Samsung does something different and makes connecting via satellite a normal feature that’s independent of carriers and their services.

The good news is that we won’t have to wait long to find out. Although Samsung hasn’t announced an event, there’s a pretty good chance that an event will take place in February if rumors are to be believed.
