Your Pixel 9 can now beam files directly to iOS

Back in November 2025, Google shocked the Android and (to some extent) iOS communities by making Quick Share compatible with Apple’s AirDrop. The move, which allowed Android and iOS users to seamlessly share files, photos, videos, and more with one another, was a big boost for interoperability, albeit at a limited scale.

Starting with the Pixel 10

For reference, when first rolled out, AirDrop support for Quick Share was limited to the Pixel 10 family. At the time, Google suggested that it would expand the functionality to older Pixels in the future, and that’s exactly what’s happening now.

We first heard reports about Quick Share’s AirDrop support hitting the Pixel 9 family late last week. The development wasn’t really official at the time. Now it is.

Google just published a new support thread indicating the expansion of the feature (via 9to5Google).

But only on a limited scale

Starting today, we are bringing Quick Share compatibility with AirDrop to the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL!

Google says the feature will roll out in phases over the coming weeks. It’s worth noting that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is curiously missing from the compatibility list, while the Pixel 9a is explicitly excluded.

To unlock the functionality on your Pixel 9 series device, you’d want to head to Settings > System > Software updates > Google Play System update, and install the latest build available. You’d then want to update the Quick Share extension by heading to the Settings app > All services > System services > Quick Share extension > Update.

Now that the floodgates are opening, it shouldn’t take very long for support to expand to even older Pixel, and potentially even non-Pixel Android devices.

Is the Quick Share update available to you on your Pixel 9? Let us know in the comments below!
