I think the bigger news is Sarah Bond quitting. I was certain she was going to replace Phil.
Here is what I think has happened (this is just me guessing no facts or anything).
Phil tells Microsoft he had enough and is retiring.
Sarah Bond puts her name forward to become the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming.
Satya (we know he wants Xbox gone) gives it to someone who hasn’t a clue on gaming. But big on AI. He loves AI and needs a “yes” person at the helm of Microsoft Gaming.
Sarah rightly being disappointed quits.
I genuinely feel now more than ever. This is it for Xbox. I think in the next 2-3 years Gamepass is going to change or be discontinued. I think come 2028 Xbox Series console will discontinue.
Xbox may still live on through board partners. Like we may see more Xbox handhelds like another ROG Xbox or a Lenovo Legion Xbox.
The next gen Xbox even though we know it’s a hybrid. Might be scrapped or again licenced out to partners like Dell Alienware Xbox and Asus TUF Xbox and HP Xbox type of thing.
Microsoft Gaming will become the new EA.
