I can’t say I’m a fan of Spencer. It’s more or less the Xbox diehards that liked him.
That said… Replacing him with an AI exec is a glowing red flag.
The old guard at Xbox at least believed in the illusion of goodwill with things like Game Pass, play anywhere, etc.
But now? Everything is rented, people will have minimal input on game development, and their goddamn data centers are going to poison the shit out of communities they’re based on. Keep in mind: farmers are losing their land at the same time and Gates is buying up a lot of it, even though he’s not the Microsoft CEO anymore. Maybe they add data centers and completely screw Americans on food supply, maybe they use it as actual farmland with the increasing numbers of unhoused people working there for “in kind” payment (lodging, meals).
This AI shit needs to die. There are legitimately good uses for it like South Korea using it in health tech, but the way American companies go all in at everyone’s expense? No.
And this brings me to my point: don’t but any Xbox products. Even if they buy the entire industry, play your backlog or quit gaming. There is too much at stake with the rapid rise of AI. And this goes for any company on this momentum. It’s all just gross, and an absolute ESG nightmare.
