Are you excited to finally solve The Final Puzzle in Resident Evil Requiem? This unbelievably complex riddle has baffled players since before the game even launched. Now, though, it seems that a solution has been discovered. We’ve got all the details for you right here, but please be reminded that this article contains major spoilers.

Note: For everything else about the game, we encourage you to hop over to our Resident Evil Requiem guides hub.

What is the Final Puzzle and who solved it first?

The Resident Evil Requiem Final Puzzle is a hidden challenge that only appears upon beating the game for the first time. The rather cryptic clue describing how to solve it simply states: “Let the sweet pair hear the voice.”

Once completed, The Final Puzzle rewards you with 20,000 challenge points (CP) used to purchased new weapons and upgrades. It does have a few notable requirements:

  • You need to have Marie’s Doll, a key item that comes from the Research Facility below the Courtyard. To get the doll to appear in the Research Facility, you’ll need to meet several requirements.
  • Once obtained, Marie’s Doll can be kept across multiple playthroughs, which is essential because you can’t solve the puzzle on the run when you first get the doll. Leave it in an item box and it will appear there future playthroughs when you’re playing as Grace.
  • During Grace’s segment–before you go outside and bring Emily to the Courtyard–you must take Emily with you to the Lead Researcher’s Office to complete a secret puzzle. Marie’s Doll must also be in your inventory.

As for who solved it first, there are several folks who deserve credit:

  • Our friends at IGN, as far as we can tell, were the first to discover the clues that eventually led to the solution to the secret puzzle. (This is actually the conclusion of the whole process, not the initial step.)
  • A YouTuber named Gengar Collects posted a video, saying that they might’ve been the first to solve the entire puzzle. While the YouTuber had forgotten the exact steps they followed, they still shared a few important tidbits:
    • They had obtained the doll in the Research Facility below the Courtyard during their first playthrough.
    • They messed around with the toilets in the Care Center.
    • Since they still had the doll on their next playthrough, they input the secret code while Grace was carrying Emily and the doll was in their inventory.
    • There was just one problem: You can inspect and check various dolls in the game, but you can’t place them in your inventory. For quite some time, no one has figured out how to make the right doll appear in that correct spot.
  • From there, enthusiastic players created The Final Puzzle subreddit, with the aim of sharing info, debunking theories, and delving deeper into the mystery.
  • And, finally, YouTuber Kyro, who mentioned they have a background in datamining, posted a video that divulged the necessary steps to make Marie’s Doll appear in the Research Facility.

How to get Marie’s Doll – The Basement

We’ve organized our Resident Evil Requiem Final Puzzle guide to outline the steps in chronological order. Think of it as though you’re playing the game for the first time, even though you might be aware of what the challenge entails.

The information on how to obtain Marie’s Doll comes from a video posted by YouTuber Kyro. The steps below need to be completed in the Care Center Basement, so do check our walkthrough if you need help navigating this location:

  • At a certain point, you need to go through the Inspection area, which is filled with hanging cadavers. It leads you to a bloody pool in the Processing area.
  • Upon reaching the pool, do not drain the blood just yet. Instead, you must wait at least 15 minutes. According to Kyro, this ensures that the first “flag”–the trigger that affects where the doll appears, in this case the number of corpses in the pool–is activated.
  • Then, once 15 minutes have elapsed, we recommend keeping a manual save. You can always reload later in case things don’t go as planned.
  • When you’re ready, drain the blood pool and hop down. You need to survive the whole ordeal without killing any zombies yourself with your weapons; they all need to fall into the grinder while they’re alive. This means just relying on “kneecap” shots and staggers. This would complete the second flag related to the doll.

Note: Kyro’s video does not mention anything about draining the smaller pool–i.e. the one with a lot of Infected Blood that you can collect. We’re going to try another playthrough to see if draining this pool is related to the challenge itself.

How to get Marie’s Doll – The Bathroom

After escaping the Care Center Basement, you have to return to the 1F Bathroom. Inside, you just need to flush a toilet eight times. This is the third flag that’s required to obtain Marie’s Doll in Resident Evil Requiem.

How to get Marie’s Doll – The Research Facility (Blood Lab)

Finally, you can go ahead and continue the campaign. Once the self-destruct sequence has been activated, you should head to the Collection & Testing area. Eventually, the core will explode and several infected zombies will turn into Blister Heads. As you head to the metal steps to the left, you should see Marie’s Doll on the ground, partially submerged in bloody liquids.

This is basically how you acquire the Resident Evil Requiem Marie’s Doll, which was the information initially shared by YouTuber Gengar Collects. Since you can’t return to the Care Center after this point, you just need to place the doll inside an item box. It will still be there in successive playthroughs.

Puzzle Clues: The Severed Hand and Let’s Play

The next sections are related to the Resident Evil Requiem Final Puzzle clues and the combination itself, which were first discovered by IGN. Here’s a quick summary:

  • After escaping the Care Center Basement, you’re going to find a Severed Hand on the floor. Go ahead and pick it up.
  • Bring it to an analyzer machine, such as the one in the Blood Lab.
  • Once it’s analyzed, a message will pop up: “Let’s Play.”
  • There also seems to be a DNA sequence of sorts: GGC – AAG – AUA – ACG – UGU – CAU.

Each codon is related to a nucleotide that forms our genetic building blocks. That said, you won’t need a medical degree for this process at all. That’s because these letters correspond to a particular symbol–i.e. the Sun-Moon-Star puzzle boxes that are required for progression.

Puzzle Clue #1: The letter G

The first clue is actually just to the side of the analyzer machine in the Blood Lab. You should see this etched on the console: G=150000000. This refers to the Earth’s distance from the sun–i.e. 150 million kilometers. That means G = Sun.

Puzzle Clue #2: The letter U

The next clue comes from the Hourglass in the Courtyard VIP Suite–i.e. Victor Gideon’s office. If you rotate it and let the sand fall down, you’ll see this tidbit etched on the other base: U = 380,000. This is the average distance of the moon from the Earth–i.e. 380,000 kilometers. That means U = Moon.

Puzzle Clue #3: The letter C

The third clue comes from a file/document–i.e. Grace Ashcroft Blood Analysis Report–which is found in the Research Lab below the Courtyard. You’ll notice this particular tidbit: C = 4.2 ly. The acronym “ly” stands for “light years.”

It just so happens that Proxima Centauri, the star that’s nearest to the Earth after the sun, is 4.246 light years away. That means C = Star.

Puzzle Clue #4: The letter A

This last clue is unnecessary, especially if you’ve figured out what the letters G, U, and C refer to. That said, if you progress a bit further into the campaign, you’re going to notice a neat Easter egg in Raccoon City when playing as Leon.

  • In the Basketball Court, there’s a head of a Mr. Everywhere doll–i.e. the collectible/token from Resident Evil 3 Remake.
  • If you keep kicking this object until it goes through the hoop, a notification will appear: “There’s no time for playing around.” This is a hint that this particular object is slightly related to the Final Puzzle.
  • If you go back to Gun Shop Kendo and interact with the body of the Mr. Everywhere doll, you’ll see another message: “Just ignore A.”

Going by the above, it means that we can ignore A in the DNA codons. The sequence then turns into: GGC – G – U – CG – UGU – CU.

The solution to the puzzle and the child’s laughter

After all that preparation, it’s time to finally solve the riddle. Just to recap:

  • You need to start another playthrough (on any difficulty) after obtaining Marie’s Doll.
  • As Grace, complete the Care Center Basement and grab the Severed Hand, then scan it using an analyzer.
  • As Grace, put Marie’s Doll back in your inventory. Then, carry Emily to the Lead Researcher’s Office .
  • Using the letter/symbol clues mentioned before, you can input this combination into the Puzzle Box: Sun, Sun, Star, Sun, Moon, Star, Sun, Moon, Sun, Moon, Star, Moon.
  • Upon doing the above steps, a notification will appear, telling you that you “let the sweet pair hear the voice.”

Note: If you do the above steps and Marie’s Doll isn’t in your inventory, you’ll just hear a child’s laughter. If the doll is in you’re inventory, you’ll complete the challenge and receive 20,000 points.

The Final Puzzle correlation of clues – The sweet pair

The Resident Evil Requiem Final Puzzle challenge certainly takes you for a wild ride, given how seemingly innocuous items are actually part of this elaborate riddle. But the first clue itself comes from the cryptic hint in the Challenges menu: “Let the sweet pair hear the voice.”

Initially, one would think that the “sweet pair” refers to various pairings in the game, such as Leon and Grace, the two Singer zombies, the two Chunk bosses, and even a couple of infected just relaxing outside the Lead Researcher’s Office.

However, the “sweet pair” actually refers to Emily and Marie. The former is the little kid who Grace meets in the room next to the save point, and the latter is the Girl monster that’s been chasing Grace throughout the Care Center.

This is hinted at in a photograph of the two, which is found in the Security Chief’s Office. In the photo, the two are sitting side by side, almost akin to twin sisters or clones. Emily also mentions Marie by name in a cutscene.

We can infer from environmental clues that Marie had escaped through a crawlspace, before turning into a monstrosity. After killing a researcher in that very room, Marie continued to roam in the darkest parts of the Care Center, before making her lair in the basement.

As you continue to progress through the campaign, you’ll also notice various dolls, such as the one in the Medication Room and another in the Holding Cells. We can surmise that Marie still retains some memory of her kinship with Emily. Even though she’s turned into a monster, she probably still views Emily as a “doll” (or a friend/sister), hence why she doesn’t kill her outright. She just wants to “keep” her close.

The Final Puzzle correlation of clues – Blood pools and Toiletgate

You might be wondering as to how Marie’s doll ends up in the Research Facility, and why you need to flush toilets in the first place. We have a few theories as to how certain clues might be related:

  • First, you’ll see that the Processing area in the basement–i.e. the meat grinder–is overflowing with blood. Past that point, you’ll fall through a drainage pipe as Grace. There, you’ll see a switch that’s labeled “Collection & Testing.” When you flip this switch, the blood will be drained from the basement, eventually flowing into–you guessed it–the Collection & Testing area in the Research Facility.
  • Second, the toilet might seem like a very random requirement, and it really does feel that way. However, if you look at where Marie imprisoned Emily in the Holding Cells, you’ll notice several dolls, including one with her name. This cell has a bed, various dolls, and, naturally, a toilet.
  • Finally, upon reaching the Research Facility, there’s a file/document where Victor Gideon mentions that Marie is known as Subject 170.
  • Hundreds of liters of infected blood were pumped into her. Unfortunately, she’s still considered a failed experiment and she’s slated for disposal.

Going by the above, we can surmise the following:

  • Subject 170 means “1 + 7 + 0 = 8.”
  • The toilet is hinted at in the Holding Cells.
  • Bodies are disposed of in the Processing meat grinder.
  • The blood of the disposed infected are pumped into experiments, such as Marie.
  • In real life, we dispose of our bodily wastes in toilets.

It’s a stretch, but these are currently the only correlations we’ve found among the clues. Contextually, it could lead one to think that (a) you have to dispose of a lot of bodies and (b) you have to flush a toilet eight times.

That does it for our guide on how to solve the Final Puzzle in Resident Evil Requiem. We told you it was gonna be a doozy. If you’re keen on checking out some more spoilery parts of the game, you can head over to our endings guide and Easter eggs guide.
