Despite several betas, Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update is still in testing but should officially roll out to supported devices soon. It’s not going to be a major update, but there will be several new and useful features, along with some visual upgrades too.
And while Samsung owners can’t wait to get the update, it looks like some are already looking towards the future, exploring some features that will arrive with One UI 9. Naturally, this update is still a work in progress since it’s expected to arrive sometime later this year.
This one could be a real game-changer
We know that phones and tablets are more capable than ever, which means being able to use devices to get actual work done on the fly when you need to. I’m not saying it’s a full desktop or even laptop replacement, but since there’s enough screen real estate on foldable phones and tablets, we’re getting close.
So, it only makes sense that brands start taking advantage of all the power offered by mobile devices, expanding the software to make multitasking a lot easier. As of now, we have the ability to open multiple windows depending on the situation, but we don’t have the ability to open multiple instances of an app.
There are workarounds at the moment, and you can gain the ability by using third-party apps, but it’s not natively a part of One UI, it really isn’t a thing. According to SammyGuru (via Android Authority), it looks like Samsung is going to introduce the ability to open multiple instances with its Browser app, making it possible to keep things in better order going forward.
Now, this isn’t a feature that’s live yet, but it should arrive as a core feature of the upcoming One UI 9 update. Apparently, Samsung is experimenting with allowing multiple instances of the browser app to run at the same time. This will allow users to better separate browsing experiences, rather than having to rely on different tabs being open.
While this might not be ideal for phones with smaller screens, this is the perfect upgrade for foldable phones and tablets. It appears that there are other features being worked on as well, like the ability to resume your browsing experience across different devices. Again, this is still early and a work in progress, so it’s unclear whether this will be finalized for 2026.
