Gemini is ready to step into the role of a true autonomous agent that can tackle multistep tasks all by itself. Google first talked about the tech in late February, but it wasn’t until Samsung’s Unpacked event that we truly understood what the feature was all about!

But it will still need your permission to pay
Google further detailed the feature with the March Pixel Drop, which also marked its rollout, and while screen automation made its way to the Galaxy S26 series, it didn’t quite show up on the Pixel 10 at the time.
That has started changing now, as pointed out by the folks over at 9to5Google.
If you have a Pixel 10 series device, and you’re running Android 16 QPR3 (the March 2026 feature drop), follow these steps to enable the feature.
- Open the Gemini app.
- Head to app settings.
- Tap on Screen automation.
- Give it relevant permission.
- Agree to the terms.
“Gemini can help with tasks, like placing orders or booking rides, using screen automation on certain apps on your device,” reads the app. It also alerts users to the fact that during automation, “Gemini takes screenshots, which can include any info visible in the app. Screenshots are reviewed by trained reviewers and used to improve Google services if Keep Activity is on.”
What can the feature actually do?
Screen automation takes action on your behalf, making repetitive tasks that don’t truly require all your attention a relic of the past. Think of it as a personal autonomous assistant that can book you a ride home or reorder your last meal on DoorDash. When you give the tool a task like that, it works in the background, allowing you to continue using your phone for other tasks.
Here are some examples of what screen automation can do:
- It can order the exact coffee you like in the exact size that you need.
- It can book rides for you, ensuring there’s enough room in the vehicle to accommodate several bags.
- It can add specific items to your grocery cart.
In all cases though, the tool takes all action barring the final one. So, in the case of a coffee order, the tool can open a specific food delivery app, navigate to the coffee shop, and look around and add the coffee of your choice to your cart. Screen Automation won’t, however, take the final step for you.
Once it has completed all the steps, Gemini will notify you to “Finish up this task,” which is essentially the app asking you to review the final order and manually pay for it.
