Spider-Man has been one of the most popular superheroes for generations now, gaining recent popularity for the new series of movies that star English actor Tom Holland. But the Sony-owned superhero has now seemingly betrayed his parent company.

Spider-Man has seemingly switched up his smartphone brand for the next feature film, and it has caused quite a buzz.
In the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter Parker is seen using what appears to be a Samsung Galaxy Z-Flip 7. Ironically, he casually places it display-side down on a rusty beam, to the horror of tech enthusiasts and anyone who cares about scratches on their screen. In the same scene, the legendary Marvel superhero is also seen scrolling Instagram Reels (conveniently featuring MJ) before snapping the phone shut and leaping off the beam.
This small moment of Peter casually scrolling on what is totally not an obvious brand placement has exploded across Reddit threads, with people discussing both his phone choices and his financial literacy. As expected, there were some jokes flying around.
To add some context, Peter is pretty much broke and ends up moving into a lower-end apartment in New York City. With this in mind, his purchase of a brand-new phone worth over $1,000 does not make much sense.
The legendary superhero has been tied to Sony Xperia devices across multiple films, which, as Android Authority noted, is a major plus of Sony owning the character rights. This apparent switch to Samsung devices feels like a notable yet quiet breakup from Sony phones — or, as I mentioned earlier, it could be that Samsung wrote a pretty large check to have its latest flip device used throughout the film.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that I have seen Samsung use this exact device for product placements. Recently, Samsung provided what was called the “Galaxy Z Flip 7 Olympic Edition” to nearly 3,800 Olympians to use while in the Olympic Village to document their experiences. I also noticed during the Medal Ceremonies that Athletes were given a completely separate one to take selfies on the podium, dubbed the “Victory Selfie.”
