How To Get The Abyssal Dragon Armor In Crimson Desert – Mecha Dragon Armor

March 23, 2026

Do you want to obtain the Abyssal Dragon Armor in Crimson Desert? This is a late-game reward, one that makes your buddy, Blackstar, look like an awesome mecha-inspired creature. Our guide has all the information that you need, but we’re going to include a few spoilers, too.

Abyssal Dragon Armor requirements

The Crimson Desert Abyssal Dragon Armor is, surprisingly enough, tied to the Witch NPCs that you meet in the game. Likewise, if you want to craft it, then you have to progress through the campaign until you unlock Blackstar in Chapter 11. Here’s a quick summary:

  • Witch NPCs like Elowen, Araciel, and others have Sanctum-related side quests. You can track these via Journal: Faction Quests – Hernand – Witches.
  • Later, upon completing Chapter 11, you’ll see another Witch quest called Flight: Wings of Iron. It requires you to “decipher the records analyzed by the Witches.”
  • Sadly, the game isn’t quite clear on this, but what you actually need are crafting materials for your Kuku Iron Pot.

Abyssal Dragon Armor crafting materials: Part 1 – Small Kuku ATAG and Abyss Cells

Your objective now is to craft the necessary components for the Abyssal Dragon Armor. The crafting process itself, much like everything related to the Kuku Iron Pot, has to be done in Kilnden Workshop in Hernand–i.e. the same place where you got the pot in Chapter 4. Talk to Grimnir near the main furnace and choose the crafting options to see the required materials.

Small Kuku ATAG

If you haven’t done so yet, revisit Gorthak in northwest Delesyia–i.e. the same place where you did the main quest objectives in Chapter 10. Talk to the NPC, Marek, to receive blueprints that you can read and permanently learn. What you have to craft first is the Small Kuku ATAG. It requires the following materials:

  • 1x Kuku Pot
  • 3x Abyss Cell
  • 5x Cogwheel
  • 5x Small Battery

The Cogwheels and Small Batteries are regular drops from mechanical enemies in Delesyia, including golems, robot mosquitoes, and other contraptions. Abyss Cells, meanwhile, drop from creatures that have been corrupted by the Abyss. Many of them appear somewhat similar to bushes, shrubbery, or rocks, but they have a glowing Abyss orb attached to them. Try checking the mountains and fast travel points west of Calphade or those east of the Crimson Desert to encounter some of these enemies.

As for the Kuku Pot, you need to send your Greymane comrades on a dispatch mission to Kilnden Workshop so they can craft you some extras. Each expedition costs 15x armaments, 105x stone, 75x timber, 60x food, and 2,500x money.

Note: You really need more than one Kuku Pot for the next process. That’s because the Kuku Pot stores large objects and Abyss-related mechanisms. The next process consumes a Kuku Pot as it’s a required material, and you definitely don’t want to lose all the items you’ve stored.

Abyssal Dragon Armor crafting materials: Part 2 – Golden Star’s Component and Aeserion’s Scale

Assuming you already have a Small Kuku ATAG, then you should be one step closer to crafting the Crimson Desert Abyssal Dragon Armor. As usual, talk to Grimnir once you have the materials listed below:

  • 1x Small Kuku ATAG – Make sure other Abyss-related items are stored in a different pot because this one will be used up as a material.
  • 1x Core: Ore of Resipiscence – Dropped by Abyss creatures in Pywel. These enemies closely resemble rock golems or stone crabs.
  • 1x Golden Star’s Component – This is a key item dropped by the Golden Star boss at the end of Chapter 11. You automatically receive this at the end of the fight when you unlock Blackstar.
  • 1x Aeserion’s Scale – This late-game crafting material comes from the Serpent Shrine. You can learn more about it in our Aeserion the Great Serpent guide.

How to upgrade Blackstar with the Abyssal Dragon Armor

Upon crafting the Abyssal Dragon Armor, recheck the Flight: Wings of Iron quest in your Journal. It tells you that you have to return to the Nest of Valor. It’s one of the Abyss islands floating above the desert region, and it’s also where you fought a boss named Goyen in Chapter 9.

The moment you teleport to the location, a cutscene will play. The mechanism will envelop Blackstar, almost akin to an anime transition, before Kliff leaps into the air and rides him.

That does it for our guide on how to get the Abyssal Dragon Armor in Crimson Desert. You’ve just unlocked a really cool feature for your reptilian buddy. Perhaps you’re also looking for other obtainable creatures, such as pets/animal companions and legendary mounts.

The lands of Pywel are vast and you are the only one who can keep the peace. As you explore distant realms and battle numerous foes, you might want to read about various tips in our Crimson Desert guides hub.
