Are you scouring the world for Aeserion’s Scales in Crimson Desert? This is a rare, late-game material, one that you need for a few high-end craftable items. It can only be found in one location in the world, and we’ve got all the details for you right here in our guide. Oh, and do be ready for a few spoilers, eh?

Aeserion the Great Serpent location

The Crimson Desert Aeserion’s Scales come from a being known as Aeserion the Great Serpent, a godlike creature that has been trapped in Pywel due to the machinations of the Ancients.

You can find him in the Serpent Shrine, which is at the southwestern tip of the region of Delesyia. Once you arrive at the location, you’ll see various magi attempting to shoot him from afar. Go ahead and jump/glide from the cliffside area to reach the shrine. Aeserion will then tell you about the three Ancients: Priscus, Praevus, and Primus.

Note 1: The locations of the three Ancients will be marked on your map as long as you’re tracking the quest. You can find the objectives under Journal: Faction Quests – Delesyia – Aeserion the Great Serpent.

Note 2: You’ll have to face three bosses that love to fly around. Be sure to unlock some of the best skills/abilities in the game, such as Focused Shot and Nature’s Snare.

Primus the Ancient location and rewards

The closest target for the Crimson Desert Aeserion quest chain is Primus the Ancient. This corrupt wizard is actually at Daggerhead Monolith, which is just north of Serpent Shrine.

Primus, as well as his comrades, tend to use the following abilities:

  • Projectile Rain – He’ll pelt you with dozens of projectiles. You can either dodge-roll to avoid this or, better yet, block them with Nature’s Snare.
  • Dive Bomb – Primus will do a wind-up animation, before plunging straight into the ground. Quickly get out of the way before you get hit.
  • Tempest – The screen will darken, dust clouds and tornadoes will emerge and deal damage to your character.

Primus the Ancient drops the following items:

  • Accessory: Ancient Ring – Has +2 attack, level 0 critical rate, level 1 attack speed, level 4 refinement, and +2% stamina regeneration per second.
  • Abyss Core: Ancient Reckoning – Imbues Wind element; can be socketed into armor.
  • Key item/treasure: Sage’s Eye – Use to permanently increase Knowledge acquisition.

Priscus the Ancient location and rewards

Priscus, meanwhile, can be found in the Spire of Ringing Truth, which is west of Pailune. While you won’t go to the location for any main quest, you should still visit the tower because it leads you to the Abyss islands where you unlock the Flame Strike and Frost Mantle elemental spells.

Priscus is similar to Primus in that he also casts a spell that shoots you with multiple projectiles. He’s also got dive bomb and quake-esque abilities.

Priscus the Ancient drops the following items:

  • Accessory: Ancient’s Necklace – It has +3 attack, level 0 critical rate, level 3 refinement, and +0.1 spirit regeneration per second.
  • Abyss Gear: Ancient Retribution – Command a sentry to shoot down enemies from above; can be socketed into a melee weapon.
  • Key item/treasure: Blessing of the Immortal – Use to become invulnerable for 10 seconds.

Praevus the Ancient location and rewards

The last Ancient that’s part of the Crimson Desert Aeserion’s Scales quest chain is called Praevus. This fella is in the desert region due west of the town of Tommaso–i.e. the settlement where you can earn a lot of money from gambling minigames. This is by far the hardest bout among all three, so be sure to bring fire-resistant equipment.

Praevus’ abilities are similar to his counterparts, though these are deadlier since they’re imbued with fire. Moreover, the location of the fight, the Abyss Debris, has scorching hot temperatures. If you get hit or as the battle wears on, Kliff will get burned and be unable to act. Worse, Praevus’ ultimate ability–i.e. denoted by the screen going dark–is an unrelenting barrage of exploding projectiles, devastating laser beams, and cascading eruptions.

If you can manage to defeat Praevus the Ancient, then you’ll receive these rewards:

  • Accessory: Ancient Earring – Has +2 defense, level 1 movement speed, level 3 refinement, and +0.2 health regeneration per second.
  • Abyss Gear: Ancient Wrath – Summons orbs that track nearby enemies and explode on impact; can be socketed into melee weapons.
  • Key item/treasure: Memory of Ancient Nature – Use to gain knowledge of all gatherable resources and materials.

Shackled God: Part 1 – How to remove the Bismuth Emitters from Aeserion’s back

Assuming you’ve defeated the three Ancient bosses, then it’s time to return to the Serpent Shrine. Now, you need to help out Aeserion in Crimson Desert by cleansing the corruption in his gigantic body. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Aeserion moves and hovers around the Serpent Shrine. You can jump and ride on his back, but beware of lightning strikes that occur periodically due to the bismuth emitters.
  • The Bismuth Emitters are the three large red metal protrusions on its body.
  • To destroy them, you need to perform Turning Slash–i.e. left mouse button + right mouse button (keyboard and mouse), R1 + R2 (PlayStation gamepad), or RB + RT (Xbox gamepad).

Shackled God: Part 2 – How to cleanse the three cores

Next up, you have to cleanse the core that you exposed upon destroying each Bismuth Emitter. This is done by using your Focused Force Palm ability:

  • Go near an exposed core/destroyed emitter and activate Focus–i.e. X (keyboard and mouse) or L3 + R3 (gamepad).
  • Charge up your Force Palm–i.e. press and hold the right mouse button (keyboard and mouse) or R3 (gamepad).
  • Wait for a few seconds until the core has a golden glow. Then, release the button.

Remember, you have to cleanse all three cores. Keep walking along Aeserion’s back, while healing as necessary, to complete this objective.

Aeserion the Great Serpent rewards and Aeserion’s Scales farming

Once the cores have been purified, a cutscene will trigger. Aeserion will be quite thankful for your help, and you should receive the Aeserion Sword. This is a one-handed sword that has +22 attack, level 0 attack speed, and level 5 refinement. It has three Abyss Gear sockets by default.

Past this point, you might want to check out various goodies on the Serpent Shrine’s island:

  • There are several Bismuth deposits that you can mine to obtain high-end crafting materials.
  • As for the Crimson Desert Aeserion Scales, you can find them scattered all over the shrine. They should have pentagon-shaped icons on your minimap. You need to grapple them with your Axiom Force, then seal them in your Kuku Iron Pot. You should be able to gather around 50 of these resources in the vicinity.
  • It’s also possible to send your Greymane comrades to farm Aeserion’s Scales. Go back to your camp, talk to Ross, pick the Delesyia: Serpent Shrine Exploration option, and make sure at least one Greymane has the Explorer skill. This whole endeavor costs 7,800 armaments, 12,000 stones, 12,000 timber, 17,000 food, and 22,000 money. It requires nine Greymanes and three in-game days to complete. Once it’s done, though, your comrades should bring back more resources for your coffers.

That does it for our guide on how to get Aeserion’s Scales in Crimson Desert. Go ahead and use the materials as you see fit. Maybe you want to craft something cool like the Abyssal Dragon Armor, eh?

The lands of Pywel are vast and you are the only one who can keep the peace. As you explore distant realms and battle numerous foes, you might want to read about various tips in our Crimson Desert guides hub.
