NotebookLM just got smarter about your sources

NotebookLM is among the most useful AI tools you can integrate into your workflow right now. Google’s consistent updates have only made the AI notebook better, with the recent Gemini integration through notebooks further enhancing its capabilities. Now, Google is solving another pain point of using NotebookLM by adding the ability to auto-label sources.

I keep adding new sources to my NotebookLM notebooks as I come across them. The problem is that it’s not always possible to categorize or label them manually for better organization. This becomes a bigger problem in large notebooks with 10+ sources.

Google is addressing this problem by adding support for auto-labeling and source categorization, so you don’t have to do the heavy lifting. The feature kicks in when you have more than five sources in a notebook. If sources overlap across topics, NotebookLM will assign multiple labels to sort them more effectively.

You can also rename, reorganize, and personalize labels using emojis for better understanding. Plus, you can assign a source a different label than the one NotebookLM assigns.

The NotebookLM team is considering adding label and categorization support for better output organization. But this feature may take a while to roll out.

For research-heavy workflows, auto-labeling and source categorization in NotebookLM can save significant time. They eliminate the hassle of manually assigning labels and make it easier to organize and find sources quickly.

Sharing notebooks gets easier

Alongside auto-labeling and categorization, Google is also making notebook sharing easier in NotebookLM. Instead of manually entering each email address, you can now paste the entire email list, and NotebookLM will parse the recipients’ addresses.

If you work with large teams or groups, this will save you from the hassle of manually entering their email addresses.

These features are rolling out now and should be available to all NotebookLM users soon.
