Walmart has a hit on its hands with its version of Google’s TV Streamer and now it looks like it’s about to follow that up with a Gemini-powered smart speaker of its own.
The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has a listing up for an Onn Smart Speaker that describes the speaker’s purpose:
A Gemini-powered smart home speaker integrating voice assistant, audio playback, and smart home control functionality. The device supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and enables seamless media streaming via Google Cast for Audio. It features a 10W speaker and a far-field microphone array for reliable voice interaction. The product includes physical controls, LED indicators, and a hardware microphone privacy switch for user interaction and privacy protection.
The device itself is a charcoal color and conical, wrapped in woven fabric, with physical control buttons at the top.
The Onn speaker was noticed by a user on Reddit.
While there’s not yet a listing for the speaker on Walmart’s site or a release date, let alone a price, it’s safe to say that it should come in under the $99.99 Google is charging for its yet-to-be-released Google Home Speaker.
That smart speaker is the first Google will offer that has Gemini rather than Google Assistant. It was announced back in October and the release date so far for it is “spring 2026.” In contrast to the rather utilitarian-looking Onn speaker, the Google Home Speaker is rotund and comes in colors that complement various kinds of home decor: Jade, Berry, Porcelain, and Hazel.
Walmart’s version would be the first non-Google smart speaker to feature Gemini. As one commenter said in reply to the post on Reddit, “[I]t’s a smart move for them to make a smart speaker.”
