‘Sheep Detectives’ stars Hugh Jackman, Chris O’Dowd, and Nicholas Braun play Pop Mash

Focusing on a flock determined to crack the case of their slain shepherd, Sheep Detectives is a new movie that’s a ton of fun. To celebrate its theatrical release, Entertainment Editor Kristy Puchko sat down with three of the film’s stars, Hugh Jackman, Chris O’Dowd, and Nicholas Braun, to play Mashable’s Pop Mash.

Puchko provides Jackman, O’Dowd, and Braun with a movie description that actually pulls details from two separate films. What these two movies have in common is one word in their titles; when the movies are combined, you get a new mash-up title.

For example: Nicolas Cage plays a lovestruck heavenly creature in this drama, wherein he helps an L.A. baseball team to victory. 

The answer: City of Angels in the Outfield.

For Sheep Detectives, Puchko customized the clues so that at least one title in each description stars Jackman, O’Dowd, or Braun.

Here’s the Pop Mash puzzles they faced:

• This Wallace & Gromit spinoff focuses on a fluffy farm animal who leads a murder investigation when his beloved shepherd turns up dead. 

• In this wild comedy, Steve Martin stars as the titular patriarch, who’s going mad as his daughter — played by Kristen Wiig — grapples with how to be the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding. Chris O’Dowd co-stars as a kindly cop. 

• Nicolas Braun plays Jim Henson and Andy Kaufman in this showbiz dramedy about what happens when zombies invade a comedy sketch show. George Romero directs. 

• Featuring songs like “This Is Me,” this rousing musical stars Hugh Jackman as a circus founder who wears a red cape as he battles for Metropolis as a superhero. Michael Shannon co-stars as the villainous General Zod.

• Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz fall in love in this wacky rom-com about a magical English nanny who comes back to visit a family that once saw her fly away with her umbrella. 

• Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson play a Neil Diamond cover band in this David Lynch neo-noir, where Dennis Hopper is a deranged gangster who huffs poppers. 

• A school for superpowered teenagers could be where teen Will Stronghold finds his inner hero. But how will he handle it when a vengeance-seeking cowboy challenges him to a shoot-out at 12 PM? 

• In this comedy anthology, Hugh Jackman plays a man who has balls hanging below his chin, while Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson play a trio of eligible bachelors who are overwhelmed by the duties of caring for an infant. 

• The god of Thunder returned for this critically panned sequel, which earned an Oscar nomination for John Lithgow’s performance of a transgender ex-footballer. 

• This Pixar movie about a young girl who can transform into a big fluffy animal surprised audiences and critics with its mature subject matter. Written and directed by Kevin Smith, this film veers into the story of a Christian cult, armed with hot girls and lots of guns.
