Spotify’s AI DJ now speaks French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese

Spotify has just released an expansion of its premium AI DJ feature that promises to enhance the experience for users in Europe and Brazil, adding the DJ function to new markets and four additional languages: French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese.

The AI DJ feature is an interactive AI-powered DJ that functions as a radio host based on your listening history, preferences, and Spotify’s own curation to deliver a playlist while commenting on the songs.

Over the years, the company has expanded its capabilities to allow users to chat with the DJ and make music requests by prompting or speaking to the DJ to request specific songs or vibes.

The DJ feature was previously available in just two languages: Spanish and English. With this new expansion, Spotify is also rolling out the DJ feature to Premium users in Austria, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, Switzerland, and more countries.

The 💜 of EU tech

Every new DJ voice and persona is tailored to the local culture and designed to maximize user engagement. For instance, Maïa is the French DJ, Ben is German, Alex is Italian, and Dani is Brazilian Portuguese.

The new feature was designed to feel like a native experience, so Spotify went through over 100 auditions to select voices that felt authentic to each market. The feature was also built in collaboration with local teams to shape each DJ’s personality, ensuring that the tone, warmth, and cultural nuance felt genuine for native speakers.

Users can access the DJ feature by going to their Home page or searching for “DJ” and tapping to start a personalized session, letting the DJ work on its own, or tapping the blue circle in the bottom-right corner to request a specific song or vibe through text or voice commands.

To switch between languages, users need to tap the three-dot menu within the DJ page and select their preferred language.

The AI DJ was originally launched in 2023 and was initially available only in the US and Canada. It later expanded to the UK and Ireland, followed by a wider launch in Australia, New Zealand, and selected markets across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Now, with these new additional languages, the feature is launching in the newly added countries, making it available in more than 75 markets worldwide.

This expansion feature comes as one of many new features recently launched by Spotify. For instance, the company recently introduced a “Verified by Spotify” artist badge that allows listeners to differentiate between human artists and AI-generated music.

Spotify has also announced several partnerships in recent months, including one with Bookshop.org to sell physical books within the US and UK, and another one with Peloton to give Premium subscribers access to more than 1,400 ad-free fitness classes and guided workouts, parrt of the company’s catalog.
