Many in my friend and family circles have an overall negative view of generative AI. While some of their concerns may be legitimate, I never shied away from making generative AI a part of my daily life.
While many people are concerned about AI taking people’s jobs, I incorporate more AI tools to boost my productivity. The newest AI tool that became part of my daily life is an app called Huxe.
However, incorporating more AI to make things easier doesn’t always mean trying new AI apps. In addition to trying new AI tools, I look for more ways to use the tools I already have on my phone.
In a recent experiment, I started using Gemini to help me on one of my favorite social media platforms. It was worth putting in the effort because the experiment was a success.
I let Gemini write my Instagram captions for a week, and nobody could tell.
How I prepared Gemini to write my Instagram captions
This was easy, but it took some time to help Gemini learn what captions I needed for posting photos on Instagram.
Since Gemini knew only a little about my personality, my first step was to import the memory into Google’s AI tool. To do this, I clicked Settings and then tapped the Import memory to Gemini option.
This opened a page where Gemini asked me to either copy and paste a prompt to the other AI provider that I use or import chats.
To update the memory, I chose the first option, pasted the Gemini prompt into ChatGPT, copied the response, and then pasted it into the Paste the response here textbox on Gemini’s Import memory page in Settings.
I knew this wouldn’t be enough because I never used ChatGPT to write Instagram captions. It was still an important step because ChatGPT knows a lot about my personality, perhaps more than any other generative AI provider.
My next step was typing another prompt in Gemini, which reads as follows:
I want you to nail my personal “voice” without sounding like a press release on Instagram. What other information do you need to help me write captions on my Instagram posts?
In reply, Gemini asked me to type examples of captions I posted recently. I typed five of my recent captions on Instagram.
It instantly recognized the pattern it found in my previous captions. I never knew that each of those captions reflected some of my unique personality traits until Gemini pointed them out.
I also gave Gemini a list of words I usually avoid on social media platforms, and told it not to use complicated or long words.
These are all the steps I followed to equip Gemini with the skills it needs to write my Instagram captions.
I couldn’t predict Gemini would write this well before it did

I followed all the necessary steps to tell Gemini everything it needs to know to write a few words for posting photos on Instagram.
However, I didn’t expect it to do such a good job at it before it wrote those captions for me.
Gemini didn’t give me the single best caption for the photo I posted on Instagram. Instead, it provided one caption for each side of my personality.
This helped me decide the best caption for my Instagram posts.
However, I didn’t fully rely on what I already told Gemini about myself. In some of my Instagram posts, I explicitly mentioned the tone before writing the captions.
This was a necessary step because Gemini would never know what my intentions were when I wanted to post something unless I said it out loud.
Before posting a picture of my partner and me together, I asked Instagram to write captions in a romantic tone. It did exactly that, making it sound like I wrote the line.
I was surprised to see how accurately it imitated my personality.
The real surprise wasn’t Gemini — it was Instagram
While I liked the responses from Gemini, I was still a bit nervous about the caption sounding a bit unlike me to my followers on Instagram.
In my week-long experiment, I posted as many as 10 pictures, and none of my followers, who included people from my friends and family, noticed anything unusual.
It was a happy surprise.
I no longer spend time writing Instagram captions
I haven’t received any negative feedback about the captions from my followers, so there is no point in doing the hard work to write those lines myself.
Gemini has learned enough about me to write those for me. It does a way better job than I would have done, providing me with numerous captions for a single post almost instantly.
My only job is to enter the prompts, which sometimes contain additional information, and Gemini takes care of the rest.
