Have you ever looked at your high-end gaming PC and thought, “This GPU could use a little character development”? Well, if you have, Samsung is here to deliver the pain and suffering with its newly launched 32-inch Odyssey G8, the company’s first 6K gaming display.
Samsung has announced the global availability of its new Odyssey gaming monitors and ViewFinity S8 lineup, but the 32-inch Odyssey G8, also known as the G80HS, is the one that will probably raise eyebrows among PC builders. Samsung says the G80HS is the industry’s first 6K gaming monitor, and that alone tells you this is not meant for an ordinary desk setup.
Who is the 32-inch Odyssey G8 really made for?
The Odyssey G8 G80HS is not the kind of monitor you pair with a modest gaming rig. Its 6K resolution, 165Hz refresh rate, and 1ms response time make it useful as both a productivity monitor and a high-end gaming display.
For work, that 32-inch 6K panel should give users more room for multitasking, editing, creative apps, spreadsheets, timelines, and detailed visual work. For gaming, 6K is the kind of resolution that can humble even a capable PC. Modern titles will need a powerful GPU, especially if users want smooth performance rather than just sharp visuals.
Why is 3K at 330Hz useful?
The good news is that Samsung has not made this a 6K-or-nothing display. The Odyssey G8 supports Dual Mode, which lets it run at up to 330Hz in 3K resolution.
This may end up being the monitor’s most useful gaming feature. You can use 6K for productivity, cinematic games, and less demanding titles, then switch to 3K for fast-paced shooters, racing games, and competitive titles where smoother motion matters more than maximum resolution.

On a 32-inch panel, 3K should still look sharp enough for gaming, so the tradeoff does not feel too harsh. Samsung also includes DisplayPort 2.1, AMD FreeSync Premium, Nvidia G-Sync compatible support, and HDR10+ Gaming.
Samsung has announced global availability for the new lineup, but the G80HS has only appeared on Samsung’s German website so far, where it is listed for pre-order at €1,499 with shipping set to begin on June 19.
