YouTube Music users are facing an annoying bug right now, one that makes it extremely difficult to do something as simple as skipping to the next track (via Android Authority).
Normally, when you play through an entire song, YouTube automatically moves onto the next one. This is exactly what’s NOT happening.
Users on platforms like Reddit and YouTube’s own support forums have started reporting the glitch within the last week. Users report that to make matters worse, tapping the ‘>’ button to manually skip to the next song does absolutely nothing.
The issue has been reported by both regular and Premium YouTube users.
This isn’t a widespread issue
This seems to mainly be bothering iOS users, but it isn’t isolated. It is reportedly affecting Android users as well. Additionally, it isn’t just a phone issue, it is affecting CarPlay users as well.
For what it’s worth, I haven’t been able to replicate the bug on either OS.
Users have been able to find relief by simply restarting their device. However, if that doesn’t fix the issue for you, Reddit user iDrinkSaline has a simple workaround that reportedly fixes the issue, at least on iOS.
- Tap your profile picture in the YouTube Music app.
- Go to Settings and then Playback and restrictions.
- Toggle Stream via Wi-Fi only to on.
- Force close the app.
- Toggle off your phone’s Wi-Fi for a “few seconds” and then turn it back on.
- Open the YouTube Music app and try skipping tracks.
Several users commented on iDrinkSaline’s post to confirm that the workaround fixed the issue for them. If you do not want to troubleshoot, switching to a different app until Google rolls out a fix might be worth considering.
