Early Fitbit Air buyers are discovering a major band fit issue

First highlighted by Reddit user enchantress11 on the r/fitbit subreddit, it clearly looks like Google’s bands will be a little to big for those with thin wrists (via Android Authority).

From the images shared, it looks like the user tried out the standard Performance Loop Band and the more-expensive Elevated Modern Band.

Both bands look like they don’t sit snugly against the user’s skin, which is a prerequisite for the device and its sensors to be able to measure metrics accurately.

“As someone with comically small wrists, I thank you for your service,” wrote one user, while a different one suggested that the OP could try “wearing it as a bicep band.”

Some suggested the OP try using the Fitbit Air as an ankle band. “Hmm will consider. Need to get enough data from the wrist before comparing to bicep/ankle placement,” wrote the OP.

The placement makes sense on paper. Ankles and biceps are, in most cases, larger than our wrists. That’s why a band that’s loose on the wrist will fit better on the ankles and biceps. However, it is unlikely that the Fitbit Air’s sensors are calibrated for those body parts, making the move useless.

If you bought the Fitbit Air and are facing the same issue, moving the band slightly above the wrist, around your forearm, should work as intended. Alternatively, investing in a third-party alternative from Amazon would be a better choice.
