Software-powered longevity is what most look for when purchasing a new smartphone today. Giants like Samsung and Google have ensured that their latest flagships offer at least 7 years of software updates, but that wasn’t always the case.
Back in 2022, Samsung released the Galaxy S22 series, paired with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 later in the same year. All of these devices are now starting to show their age.

You’ve seen these before — with a twist
The South Korean tech giant’s Android 16 QPR2-based skin for Galaxy devices has already been rolled out to a majority of the company’s recent flagships, though the 2022 lineup is waiting for the update.
Now, a One UI 8.5 rollout roadmap has leaked online, highlighting all the devices that are yet to receive the update, complete with the month they’ll receive the update in. This roadmap does not include the S22 series. It also does not include the Z Flip 4 and the Z Fold 4.
The document highlights “update completed” for these devices:
- S25 series
- S25 Edge
- Z Fold 7
- Z Flip 7
- S24 FE
- S24 series
- Z Fold 6
- Z Flip 6
- S23 series
The document indicates that these devices will receive One UI 8.5:

The roadmap was found by Samsung tipster @Alfaturk16 on Samsung’s Hong Kong website (via SammyGuru). Considering that Samsung’s device update strategy is the same across regions, the 2022-released flagships are out of luck globally.
This confirms the fact that the S22 and Z Flip 4/Z Fold 4 were only guaranteed 4 years of software updates. Said devices will still receive security updates, but when it comes to software, One UI 8 will be the last operating system on these devices.
