For once, Samsung’s Ultra may not be the phone to buy
Samsung is getting ready to launch a wide-screen book-style foldable this year, and that’s an open secret. At first, hints alluded that the foldable will be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, though as we approach the supposed July Unpacked date, the naming convention seems to have been drastically changed.
Recent leaks have suggested that the standard foldable, which would have originally been called the Galaxy Z Fold 8, will now be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The wide-screen foldable, on the other hand, will be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Prepared to be bamboozled?
This leak has now been corroborated by an official source. The upcoming base foldable has been spotted in the Bluetooth SIG database, and it is clearly named “Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra,” alongside several model numbers that have previously been identified as the standard foldable, via 9to5Google.
Will this cause confusion? Definitely yes. I can see those not too deep in the tech news loop assuming that the foldable they’ve grown accustomed to over the years will be called the Z Fold 8. And the new and shiny form factor will be given the ‘Ultra’ moniker.
It’s worth noting that the database leak does not offer any other insight regarding the upcoming device’s specs.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra will be unveiled at Samsung’s rumored Unpacked event on July 22, alongside the Galaxy Watch 9.
