Fans of the Yakuza franchise have something major to look forward to in early 2017. Stranger Than Heaven, a prequel to the Like a Dragon franchise, is now open for preorder and is slated for a January 15, 2027 release on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox on PC. There are two editions to choose from, as well as one retailer-specific preorder bonus. While none of those include early access, both the Deluxe Edition and the Collector’s Edition have some fun bonuses worth checking out.
If you are a Game Pass subscriber, Stranger Than Heaven will also launch there on January 15.

Stranger Than Heaven Standard Edition

Stranger Than Heaven delivers you into the shoes of Makoto Daito, an orphan persecuted for his mixed Japanese and American heritage in the United States. He sneaks onto a ship in hopes of going to Japan. From there, you’ll follow Daito across five sprawling timelines, from 1915 to 1965. Take a break from your battles as Makoto becomes a showman as well, weaving the thread of entertainment throughout his adventurous lifetime. The game also features Snoop Dogg and appearances from late actors Bunta Sugawara and rapper Tupac Shakur.
Stranger Than Heaven is a prequel to the Like a Dragon franchise and is being developed by RGG Studio (Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio) and published by Sega. Director Mikinobu Abe has worked on several titles from the Like a Dragon franchise in the past, including Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
