What you need to know

  • Samsung announces a real-world campaign alongside Sony and Spider-Man: Brand New Day that brings the movie’s Spidey Tracker to life.
  • On June 17, users can interact with the Spidey Tracker to see where our favorite webslinger is, and you might spot hidden easter eggs and more.
  • Samsung is showcasing its foldables and watches in the new movie, displaying the line’s usability.

We all know the classic Spider-Man song, but this summer’s movie is being bolstered by Samsung’s devices and an app created by the film’s Ned Leeds (played by Jacob Batalon).

Samsung wants to swing with the friendly neighborhood webslinger this summer, announcing the Spidey Tracker powered by Galaxy. The company says it’s looking to “expand the narrative beyond the film” with this sticky (I’ll stop the puns) collaboration. The Spidey Tracker is an interactive campaign that users can play with to follow Spider-Man sightings and “engage with the story in real time.”

The tracker is coming online on June 17 in 35 countries worldwide.

Jeffrey Godsick, executive vice president, Global Partnerships, Sony Pictures Entertainment, said, “Spider-Man has always been a hero defined by his connection to his community. Teaming up with Samsung helped bring that spirit to life both on screen and beyond, integrating the technology people use every day into Spider-Man’s world while also bringing innovative and fun new ways for fans to engage through the Spidey Tracker.”

Samsung’s campaign with Spider-Man: Brand New Day doesn’t stop at the tracker. The post highlights real-world moments where users can spot cast appearances and interviews, hidden easter eggs, content drops, and more. In the film, Samsung says movie-lovers will see the “portability” and usefulness of the Galaxy Z Flip, Fold, and Galaxy Watch in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Users should keep an eye out for the Spidey Tracker website tomorrow to begin tracking our favorite webslinger. Story-wise, Ned Leeds developed the tracker and is seen using it on a Galaxy Z Fold 7, as well as Spider-Man’s mask on his Galaxy Watch. We’ll have to wait for the movie to see how everything works for real in the Marvel Universe.

Samsung’s making moves with this decision, and there’s no getting around how extremely popular the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was last year. The Fold 7 was made lighter and thinner than previous iterations, and Samsung upgraded its hinge to withstand hundreds of thousands of folds. If you’re thinking about the Galaxy Watch, the recent series has been upgraded with better health tracking and features to keep users on top of their wellbeing. Moreover, there was a report about the Galaxy Watch successfully detecting a fainting spell before it happened.

Android Central’s Take

Needless to say, I’m a comic book nerd. This is pretty cool. Aside from the comics, if you’ve ever played the recent Spider-Man games on a PlayStation 5, there’s something like a “tracking” aspect with him there. It’s more social media based, and Spider-Man has a ton of followers there.
