Nightmarish Galaxy S23 reports after downloading One UI 8.5 have me terrified

What you need to know

  • Galaxy S23 Ultra users report a strange “pink vertical line” on their screen after downloading the One UI 8.5 upgrade.
  • A user states more problems have surfaced, such as glitches, animation bugs, and flickering font sizes/display scaling.
  • Recent report say Samsung removed the video filters option from Galaxy phones downloading the One UI 8.5 update.

Samsung has continued to roll out One UI 8.5 to its past-gen phones; however, one series is having problems to user wants to see.

A thread recently appeared on Samsung’s Community Forum by a user with a Galaxy S23 Ultra who states the One UI 8.5 update messed up their display (via SamMobile). According to the user’s report, after downloading the update, “a pink vertical line” appeared on their screen. The user covers their bases, stating their device has not received any external damage, nor have its internals been exposed to water.

Android Central’s Take

I kept going through the thread, and users are upset. Understandably, I might add. We’ve been waiting for One UI 8.5 for months. Samsung’s gone through extensive tests and bug fixes and delays. All users want is software that works. While bugs can happen, something like this really leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Hopefully it gets fixed quickly, but who knows how much pep is in Samsung’s step.

The phone’s display was perfectly fine beforehand, but now that One UI 8.5 is here, so is the pink line. It’s unclear how widespread the problem is; however, some users have reported experiencing a similar phenomenon on their Galaxy S23 devices. The original poster went into more detail after a community moderator entered the thread.

Alongside the vertical strip, the user states their device’s “font size and display scaling keep changing randomly and flickering.” What’s more, their display will strangely zoom in and out on its own, with stuttering, lag, and animation glitches becoming commonplace.

The moderator offered pretty standard at-home solutions: restart the device, update software (which seems to be the cause), and more. None of these seemed to offer relief. Samsung hasn’t acknowledged these issues yet, so S23 users should take this with caution if you’re just getting One UI 8.5.

One UI 8.5’s stable rollout finally got going early in May. The software has been in testing since late 2025 and first arrived on the Galaxy S26 series. This was expected. The newer devices usually rock the latest software, but we were expecting One UI 8.5 to hit the Galaxy S25 and maybe the S24 shortly after. That didn’t happen, as we’ve only just gotten our hands on it in May. Early on, Samsung started rolling it out for the Galaxy S25 and S24 series, alongside the Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Tab S11 and Tab S10.

Now the patch is hitting the S23, and with a problem no one would ever want. While Samsung seems to have picked up the pace for this software, maybe it’s time for it to take a minute to fix this grueling issue. Reports popped up late in May about Samsung seemingly removing video features in One UI 8.5.

A user stated that the company took away the filters option for recordings. Multiple users chimed in, reporting the same.
