Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 looks almost identical to the original, but here’s what may change

Samsung is supposedly just weeks away from holding its second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year, where it is expected to unveil its 2026 foldable and smartwatch lineup. A recent leak already gave us a glimpse at the Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2, and now more high-quality renders of the company’s new Ultra smartwatch have surfaced online.

Unfortunately, if you didn’t like the squircle design of the original Galaxy Watch Ultra, its successor won’t change your opinion.

Based on the renders shared by Evleaks on his Leakmail substack, Samsung will seemingly stick with the same design language for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Even the three buttons on the right remain in the same place.

Only the color options will purportedly change, with the watch apparently coming in a black/gray finish and a deep green shade. There could be additional color options as well, exclusive to Samsung’s online store and selected markets.

From the markings on the casing, the Galaxy Watch Ultra will reportedly feature a 47mm chassis with 10ATM water resistance. It will also use sapphire crystal glass and support LTE connectivity.

New Qualcomm chip could be the real star of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2

While not mentioned in the leak, Samsung has already confirmed it will switch to Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Wear chip for future Galaxy Watch models. So, the Watch Ultra 2 should use the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, which promises significant performance improvements and sports a dedicated NPU for AI tasks.

Samsung’s current Galaxy Watch models use the Exynos W1000. It debuted in 2024, and while its CPU performance is decent, the chip is showing its age, especially from a connectivity viewpoint. The new Snapdragon Wear chip will support Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, Micro-Power Wi-Fi, and 5G RedCap.

Add in the more powerful CPU, GPU, and NPU, and the new Snapdragon Wear chip could allow the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 to live up to its Ultra name.

Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is rumored to take place in London in the third week of July. So, we won’t have to wait long to know more about Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartwatch.
