Samsung Health’s AI consent sparked outrage, but it turns out it was all just a misunderstanding

A day or so ago, we reported that Samsung Health customers were having their data effectively held hostage if they weren’t willing to consent to having the data used for Samsung’s AI training. As you can imagine, people were pretty angry about this. But it looks like Samsung has swooped in to clear the air about what’s really going on. And it appears that it was all just miscommunication.

Let’s be clear

This is one of those things where having someone at Samsung triple and quadruple-check the work could have saved the company and its customers a ton of headaches. SamMobile reports that Samsung has now clarified that this was all just a misunderstanding and that this will only affect AI training data and not primary health data for the app.

You can see the message in full that Samsung supplied to users, which basically states that there’s a separate data batch for AI training, stating that consent is optional. Furthermore, if you don’t consent to this, the data for AI training that has been stored will be deleted.

It clarifies that existing health data will not be deleted. Perhaps most important, Samsung goes on to say that it is looking to improve the text in order to make the purpose more clear for its users. If you’re still not convinced, SamMobile gave it all a try, and found that its core data for Samsung Health remained intact even after declining the AI data content.

So, you can now go through this process without having to worry about all your important Samsung Health data from being deleted.

Samsung’s big summer

In just a week or so, Samsung will reveal its latest hardware, debuting new foldable phones for 2026. There’s a lot of excitement in the air because there could be a new form factor from the brand this year. Naturally, that’s just all rumors at this point, so we’ll just have to wait and see what’s going on.

In addition to the new hardware, Samsung should also be debuting new software as well. This part is equally important because it brings new features to its latest phones, but also to its older models as well. Furthermore, we could see some enhancements to Samsung Health that could be quite useful.

Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to find out, with the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event set to take place on July 22 in London. You can now reserve ahead of the event to score some bonus credit.
