Neko Health raises $700M and heads to New York

Neko Health, the body-scanning startup from Spotify’s Daniel Ek, has raised $700m and is now worth about $7bn. It is heading to New York, backed by Mark Zuckerberg, Maria Sharapova, and will.i.am.

“We’ve gone into markets where health care is free, and hundreds of thousands of people line up in a queue” to pay for a scan, Daniel Ek told the New York Times. “That also captures the imagination.” It has clearly captured investors too.

Ek’s body-scanning startup Neko Health has raised a $700m Series C. The round values the company at nearly $7bn, roughly four times its worth in January 2025. Neko will use the money to open its first US clinics, starting in New York this year.

Lightspeed Venture Partners led the round, co-led by O.G. Venture Partners. The backer list reads like a gala guest book. Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, Maria Sharapova, will.i.am, Thierry Henry, Jimmy Iovine, and the author Tim Ferriss all put money in.

“With this round, we’re taking that mission to the US for the first time,” co-founder and chief executive Hjalmar Nilsonne said in the announcement. Lightspeed’s Bejul Somaia called Neko “one of the most important healthcare companies of our generation.”

What Neko sells

Neko runs private clinics built around a 60-minute full-body scan. A pod packed with sensors captures millions of data points on your skin, heart, and circulation. A blood test runs alongside it, and a doctor walks you through the results the same day.

The scan screens for early signs of skin cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. It costs £299 in the UK, and US pricing is not set yet. Ek co-founded Neko in 2018 with Hjalmar Nilsonne and launched it in 2023.

The pitch is that Neko owns its whole stack. It designs its own hardware, software, and clinics. That, the company says, lets it improve faster than rivals tied to off-the-shelf machines.

Prevention is suddenly hot

Neko is riding the longevity and biohacking boom. Money is pouring into preventive care, from insurers like Alan to lab-test startups and even an AI body scanner from Midjourney. US rivals Prenuvo and Ezra already sell whole-body MRI scans.

The traction is real. More than 100,000 people have taken a Neko scan, and 350,000 more are registered or waiting. Three in four returning members whose scans flagged a serious condition now have it under control, Neko says.

Not everyone is sold. Some doctors question whether whole-body scans catch enough real disease to justify the cost and the false alarms. But with eight clinics across Sweden and the UK, including its largest in London, and a queue in every market it enters, Neko has convinced the money. New York is next.
