Apple launched the Apple Card way back in 2019, but you were out of luck if you wanted a credit card from an Android phone maker. However, it’s now Samsung’s turn to offer a similar proposition as it just launched the Samsung Galaxy Card in the US.
Samsung says the Galaxy Card is the company’s first credit card in the US, adding that it’s a Visa card issued by Barclays US. This isn’t the firm’s first credit card in general, though, as it already offers a Samsung Card in Korea. But it’s still a pretty notable announcement.
Samsung is promising a variety of rewards to go with its new card:
- 5% cash rewards on purchases made directly with Samsung, including the company’s next Galaxy devices
- 3% cash rewards on purchases made via Samsung Wallet
- 2% cash rewards on select streaming services, including Disney Plus, Netflix, and Spotify
- 1% cash rewards on other purchases
- $200 cash reward after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days
- 20% off Samsung’s VIP Advantage program, and 5% cash rewards when purchasing or renewing a membership
The Galaxy Card is available in both a virtual format and as a black metal card. The company says this card is designed to work with Samsung Wallet. More specifically, the card will be “instantly” provisioned to Samsung Wallet, allowing people to make purchases, earn rewards, and manage their accounts from a Galaxy device.
Samsung says “eligible” customers can start applying for the Galaxy Card from today (July 20), while applications for the general public will begin on July 22. The company claims there’s no annual fee for the card.
