What you need to know

  • Ultrahuman announced the Emerald update for its app, which brings a “decision engine,” known as UltraSphere.
  • UltraSphere can deliver over 60 “Next Best Action” suggestions to users based on their location, weather, profile, and biomarkers (sleep, HRV, recovery, etc.).
  • Other updates involve VO2 Max algorithm updates, heart rate accuracy improvements, and enhanced workout detection.
  • The Emerald update is rolling out today (July 23) globally.

Ultrahuman pushes its smart rings and users to be better in health and fitness. But the company isn’t done, and its major app overhaul today (July 23) is the largest in its history.

The Emerald update is rolling out for the Ultrahuman app late this week. The company highlights “15 new and overhauled features” in this patch, but the star is the “decision engine,” UltraSphere. The app sports several UI refinements in this patch. The company states it redesigned its UI for clarity for “health data and to promote better decisions.” Users receive light and dark modes, a Jade AI tab, and “timely” information in the Ring tab.

UltraSphere is the centerpiece of the Emerald update and the app’s homescreen. Ultrahuman says this is a “decision engine that generates 60+ Next Best Actions, such as boosting energy and alertness, winding down, and promoting more restful, restorative sleep.” UltraSphere doesn’t do it alone, as the press release states it leverages Jade AI to draw on your markers from sleep, recovery, HRV, cycle phase, and more.

Mohit Kumar, Ultrahuman’s CEO, states, “All wearable trackers generate data. Data is empowering, but people do need something more than a number – they want to know what to do.” In that spirit, UltraSphere delivers its suggestions based on your location and weather, circadian rhythm, and profile.

If you’re a parent or someone working the night shift, UltraSphere would tailor its suggestions to fit that lifestyle. A “Next Best Action” suggestion might include “Get Light,” which would tell the user to “Step outside for a few minutes soon after waking. Morning light sets the body clock so users feel alert today and fall asleep more easily.”

The Emerald update makes two important changes to the app’s tracking and accuracy. Ultrahuman says its Ring runs all of its processes on your device. This was done to keep your insights available without a connection.

The latter focuses on workout analysis and heart-rate accuracy with the Ring Pro and Air. Automatic workout detection and tagging have been improved. Heart rate details take a few steps up in this update, too. The Ultrahuman app also welcomes third-party devices for workout tracking. It highlights many GPS sports watches like the Apple Watch, Garmin, WHOOP, and others.

Ultrahuman is putting its VO2 Max capabilities in the spotlight, boasting a 21% increase in accuracy. The company credits a major algorithm, which has been “validated” against gold-standard CPET lab tests. The Emerald update for the Ultrahuman app is rolling out globally today (July 23). While we’ve covered a few important updates here, there are several more you’ll also find: Sleep Screener, Longevity tab, Connections, Windows, Live View, Today’s Activity, Today’s Activity, Contextual Content, Goals, and PowerPlugs.
