Google’s always-on AI agent is expanding, but it won’t come cheap

Earlier in July, Google upgraded Gemini Spark, its always-on AI agent, with computer-use capabilities and integration with the Gemini app for Mac, enabling it to complete tasks on your behalf. After initially being available in limited preview, Google expanded Spark access to its AI Ultra subscribers in the US. Now, the company is further broadening Spark’s availability to more markets and subscribers.

In the US, Google AI Pro subscribers can now access Gemini Spark. Globally, the AI agent is rolling out to AI Ultra subscribers, with local language support, though the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Nigeria are not part of the expansion. Google’s AI Ultra plan starts from $100 per month and provides higher rate limits for Gemini models, additional storage, and other perks.

Given Spark’s international expansion, it should only be a matter of weeks before it becomes available to AI Pro subscribers outside the US.

Besides your computer, you can access Gemini Spark on Android, iOS, and the web. If you have an eligible subscription, you should see Spark appear in the sidebar, located between Search chats and Daily Brief.

Spark is a great way to explore what an always-on AI agent can do

With Google adding MCP support to Gemini Spark earlier this month, you can do a lot more with the AI agent than before. Connect Spark to your Workspace account, and it can carry out multi-step actions on your behalf, like finding the best travel deals and booking for your upcoming trip.

You can also create reusable skills for future tasks. For example, Spark can analyze your emails, turn your writing style into a skill, and apply it whenever you ask the agent to draft an email.

If you don’t want the hassle of setting up OpenClaw or Hermes on your PC, Spark offers a more accessible alternative. It provides an easy way to explore what an always-on AI agent can do, from handling multi-step workflows to automating repetitive tasks across apps.

Its reusable skills should make it more useful over time, allowing the agent to adapt to how you work and save you considerable time. The main barrier is its limited availability and subscription requirement. But if you pay for an eligible Google AI plan, Spark could be a practical entry point into the world of autonomous AI agents.
