A24’s ‘Onslaught’ trailer is chilling stuff

A24‘s Onslaught trailer is a pretty rattling experience.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett (the team behind You’re Next, The Guest, and Blair Witch), the horror-action-thriller sees a bunch of genetically engineered super soldiers on the loose, with dramatic monikers like The Butcher, Crybaby, and Cockroach. In the trailer, these “human equivalents of a heat-seeking missile” are introduced, before they terrorise an Army sniper (Adria Arjona), her young daughter, and their neighbours in the desert.

And it’s all set to an overtly 28 Years Later-style remix of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 “Day of Infamy” speech — delivered by the U.S. president after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, and effectively signalling America’s entry into World War II.

Cast-wise, Arjona is joined by Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Drew Starkey, and Alex Pereira.

Onslaught hits cinemas Sept. 4.
