When the Googlebook was first announced, not much was known about it beyond that it’s based on Gemini, has a glowbar that does…something, and represents closure for Chromebooks.
Now we have images that show some of the new lineup. First, there’s a leak of renders of the Lenovo Googlebook 15 surfaced by Digital Citizen. Then there are images of a Lenovo 2-in-1 tablet from Android Headlines.
A good look at the Googlebook 15
Lenovo was named as one of the first partners that would be building the Googlebook. This batch of images is reportedly the full press image set for the Googlebook 15.
Google branding is prominent, with the Googlebook name stamped to the left of the touchpad and a dedicated Gemini key marked with a “G” in the familiar Google Sans font.
The 15-inch display has a privacy shutter that slides over the camera in its bezel. As for ports, there’s an HDMI, two USB-C, and one USB-A port. There’s also an SD card reader, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack. The speaker grilles are labeled as Dolby Atmos.
The 2-in-1 tablet
Googlebooks will not be restricted to traditional laptops. There’s also a 2-in-1 design from Lenovo.
Android Headlines published images of what looks like a typical Android tablet but with the same type of Googlebook branding as the Googlebook 15. The Googlebook name again appears to the left of the touchpad and there’s the same dedicated Gemini key. As with the Googlebook 15, the speakers are Dolby Atmos.
On the fall schedule
The first Googlebook lineup is expected to be shown this fall at IFA. It will feature laptops from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
Googlebooks will be more expensive than their Chromebook predecessors. It’s a move that could open up a competitive landscape in the education market which Google has dominated for some time but is now challenged by the MacBook Neo that starts at $599 with educational pricing.
