Filling out the Museum requires either a lot of luck or a detailed guide to the fish locations in Fields Of Mistria. Fortunately, we can provide one of those, including tips and tricks to get those coveted Legendary Fish. We’ve also covered Fishing Perks, so you know which ones to pick to get the best results (and make the most money), as well as Bait, Legendary Fish, equipment, Fish Traps, and diving.
Fishing Basics
Fish come in four sizes, and have six available appearances underneath the water. Fish-shaped shadows can either be small, medium, large, or giant, and you’ll also see schools of fish (a dense cluster of tiny fish shadows) and dive spots. Dive spots are round dark patches in the water, which prompt you to “dive” when you swim over them.
You’ll need a Fishing Rod to start fishing, and will eventually be able to use the Fish Traps as well. Fishing Poles, like all Tools, have better range the higher level they are. You’ll start off with a Worn Fishing Rod, which allows you to cast a range of 6, and work your way up through Copper, Iron, Silver, and Gold before reaching the Mistril Fishing Rod which can charge a range of up to 16.
Here’s how you know it’s time to reel in.
Any body of water around the map could contain fish, aside from the fountain in the center of town. Hold the default Tool button to charge your line, then release to cast it. The fish will nibble a few times, then bite–displaying a “!” in a bubble. Once this happens, hit the Tool button again to reel it in. If you’re not quick enough, it’ll swim away.
Various Perks can increase the range of attraction between the fish and the hook, as well as rewarding you with money and extra bonuses while you fish.
Legendary Fish
Legendary Fish can only be caught once the Legendary Skill is unlocked. During the morning announcements under the calendar date, the game will now tell you that a “Legendary Fish is nearby” with a silhouette of the fish in question.
Each fish is tied to a location, season, and weather type, explained in the table below.

Legendary Fish can only be caught once each, and aren’t good money-makers or gifts, so donating them to the museum is the best way to go.
Using Fish Bait and Traps in Fields Of Mistria
Fish Bait And Traps
Fish Bait is made in a Terrarium, something you unlock through the quest Apiaries And Terrariums. Terrariums are filled with bugs, and depending on your choice of critter, you might find yourself with some Fish Bait. The quality of the Bait depends on the rarity of the four bugs in the Terrarium, giving you Common Fish Bait all the way through to Rare.
Bait can be used by throwing it into the water to summon fish, or placed inside a Fish Trap and left overnight.
The below table shows fish that require Bait to be caught. Other fish can appear in the Fish Traps, but the ones in this table won’t appear anywhere else.
