Some Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 owners have raised the alarm about potential durability issues with the Z Fold 8’s inner display. As seen in a number of posts across the internet, the corners of the inner display can be pressed in, pushing it below the level of the frame.
Many are worried this is a sign of poor build quality, but is it? Many others are simply not worried about it, and frankly, neither are we.

Durability is always going to be a concern for the owners of foldable smartphones, which may explain why some Galaxy Z Fold 8 owners have noticed a potential problem with their phones.
According to posts on Reddit, the Samsung Community forums, and elsewhere, the corners of the Z Fold 8’s inner display can be pushed in with a little pressure. What’s most alarming about this is the display seems to dip beneath the level of the frame. You can see the “problem” most easily in the Instagram video below.
I can confirm my Z Fold 8 does exactly this, with the corners pushing in slightly under a bit of pressure. Would I have ever known if not for these reports? Absolutely not, because this is just not something I would ever do.
This experience is far from universal, though. A majority of the users in the Reddit poll report their phone displays are rock solid, and one wondered aloud how anyone even finds this out. The original poster then explained that they noticed while cleaning the inner screen, which, admittedly, does seem reasonable.
Sure, my own phone’s display corners bend slightly under pressure. But I’m just not going to press there, and frankly, it’s a foldable display. Of course it’s going to flex a bit.
Plus, like any responsible foldable owner, I’m going to be careful with the inner display. As much as Samsung has beefed up the strength of the inner display, I still winced when watching JerryRigEverything’s durability video. I know it’s his thing, but you don’t do that to a foldable display.
Speaking of JerryRig, one commenter posited the issue may stem from the build, which includes safety pads to help hold the corners, since the corners need to flex to allow the phone to bend. Whether this is true or not isn’t confirmed, and we’d probably need to ask a Samsung engineer to know for sure.
Is it something worth worrying about? Probably not. I’m just not going to press my inner display here, and frankly, neither should you.
