Just days after the Oxfordshire space company was approved to provide deployable comms to the UK government’s Tactical Communications framework, Open Cosmos has secured €300m to expand its satellite mass-manufacturing capabilities while growing intelligence and connectivity satellite infrastructure around Earth.
Founded in 2015, Open Cosmos has manufactures, designs, builds and operates satellite for missions at scale across the UK and Europe. It claims to be capable of manufacturing one satellite a day from its current four factories across Europe, boasting no less than a 100% success rate on all satellites launched to date.
Open Cosmos is claimed to be one of Europe’s fastest growing space infrastructure companies. In October 2025, the firm was selected by the Spanish Space Agency and the European Space Agency to lead the development of the Spanish component of the Atlantic Constellation, the largest Earth observation constellation ever contracted in Spain.
To date, the company has been backed by investors including Lightrock, ETF Partners, Entrepreneurs First and Santander and has delivered five consecutive years of profitable growth, booking more than $370m in contracts over the past five years.
The new funding round was led by European investors, includes continued participation from Lightrock and ETF Partners as well as Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Entrepreneurs First and two major international pension funds. Other participants include Convex Group, National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF), Phoenix Court (home of LocalGlobe and Latitude) and Claret Capital Partners.
Specific areas which will be boosted by the cash injection include eConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation and DataCosmos.
The company’s low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation combines point-to-point broadband with direct-to-device internet of things (IoT), enabling governments to detect threats in real time and deliver actionable, space-derived intelligence directly into tactical networks, applications and decision-making systems.
ConnectedCosmos delivers an “active” resiliency service, to detect threats, monitor sovereign assets and deliver real-time intelligence to the tactical edge – wherever they operate. OpenConstellation is said to be designed to “dramatically” reduce the delay between requesting satellite imagery and receiving critical insights. It is intended to support mission-critical government and enterprise operations, from disaster response and environmental monitoring to energy infrastructure protection, mining operations and smart city planning.
The arrival of OpenConstellation is claimed to have reduced the delivery of Earth observation (EO) intelligence from up to 48 hours to as little as 30 minutes, while enabling onboard AI processing and inter-satellite communications for real-time intelligence services.
Commenting on the new funding, Open Cosmos CEO Rafel Jorda Siquier said: “Space infrastructure is becoming as critical as energy, digital networks and transport. Governments and enterprises increasingly require secure communications and operational data delivered through resilient systems. But infrastructure alone isn’t enough. The real value comes from the intelligence that relays what’s happening on Earth in real time and the global connectivity to deliver it.
“This investment allows us to accelerate that vision, satisfying the satellite manufacturing orders that governments and large companies are placing for our reliable and high-performance satellites and delivering the sovereign services the world needs.”
UK space minister Elizabeth Ann Lloyd added: “This landmark investment represents a major vote of confidence in Open Cosmos and Britain’s growing space sector. Our new UK Space Strategy recognises the increasing importance of satellite communications in all our lives, from connectivity to defending our country, and companies like Open Cosmos are vital for advancing that infrastructure.
“Following previous UK government support, it is great to see the company continuing to grow, with investment that will help unlock high-skilled jobs and growth that will benefit people across the UK.”
