Actor Stephen Root recently confirmed that he will appear in GTA 6, after people correctly identified him as the voice of the drug-runner Brian Heder. He confirmed this on September 13, and on September 14, Root won his first-ever Emmy award for his incredible performance on the show Widow’s Bay.
In winning an Emmy, Root becomes just the second-ever Emmy-winning actor to appear in a GTA game. The first? That was James Woods, who voiced Mike Toreno in 2004’s GTA: San Andreas.
Woods has won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor–he won for Promise (1987), and My Name Is Bill W (1989). Woods also won a Daytime Emmy Award for playing Hades in the animated TV spinoff of Disney’s Hercules.
Rockstar has not officially announced any casting details for GTA 6, but as mentioned, many people immediately recognized Root as the voice of Heder, and Root later confirmed his involvement in the game. It remains to be seen, however, who voices the game’s two leads, Lucia and Jason, or any of the other main cast.
Root won his Primetime Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay, an eerie, humorous show on Apple TV. He plays the central character, Wyck, alongside Matthew Rhys in the leading role of Tom.
In other gaming news from the Emmys, Prime Video’s Fallout TV series won two awards out of the 10 it was nominated for. The Season 2 wins included Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes and Outstanding Production Design.
