Preordering brand-new Apple gear usually means paying full retail price and waiting by your front door for the delivery truck. But Amazon is bending the rules just enough to make hitting “buy now” feel a little sweeter.
While you won’t see dramatic clearance-rack strike-throughs on unreleased tech, Apple’s new AirPods 5 are already seeing a quiet price drop. They technically sit at a $129 list price, but Amazon currently has them listed for $124.99 right out of the gate.
If you’ve been waiting to upgrade your daily earbuds, the AirPods 5 hit a really nice sweet spot. In her coverage for Mashable, Bethany Allard points out that “unlike the previous gen, both [AirPods 5 models] feature active noise cancellation — but this doesn’t result in a price hike.” Even at the base level, you get solid upgrades. Apple packed in “50% more active noise cancellation than the AirPods 4,” an “improved transparency mode for a more natural sound,” and an “updated adaptive EQ, which helps power better spatial audio.”
