What you need to know

  • The Google Health app is rolling out blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends, and sleep breathing quality tracking to its Health Guardian suite.
  • The features analyze long-term pattern changes over weeks rather than providing instant clinical readings, functioning as wellness indicators instead of direct medical diagnostic tools.
  • The update is available for free to Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 users, while Fitbit Air owners can access it via a Google Health Premium subscription.

Google is expanding the health-monitoring tools available on its Pixel Watch lineup, with three new Health Guardian features starting to roll out this week. The update adds blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends, and sleep breathing quality metrics to the Google Health app.

The features are intended to look for changes over time, not to replace traditional medical measurements. Pixel Watch owners can start to set them up this week, Google says.

According to the tech giant, the Health Guardian system uses AI models trained on billions of minutes of sensor data to recognize subtle physiological patterns, so the watch can estimate trends from signals it already collects without a dedicated blood-pressure cuff or blood sample.

That approach is especially notable for trends in insulin resistance, which Google says can analyze multiple weeks of physiological data without requiring a blood draw. The company says the feature is meant to promote overall wellness, not to diagnose diabetes or replace clinical testing.

The additions join Google’s broader Health Guardian suite, which also includes Breathing Emergency Detection on the Pixel Watch 4 and Watch 5 in select European countries.

Existing owners also get in on the fun, as the new tools will be offered for free on the Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5. Users of the Fitbit Air will soon have access as part of a Google Health Premium subscription.

The first detailed trend reports are expected in early October, offering users their first real glimpse at how Google’s trend-based health monitoring functions outside of the company’s launch messaging.
