Pixel phones’ notifications and Quick Settings are going haywire

We’ve been seeing an uptick in users reporting problems with their Pixel phones since Android 17 QPR1 started hitting devices this month. Today, we’ve noticed multiple users complaining about a particularly disruptive bug. On some phones, the status bar and notification shade are acting up, failing to display notifications and not responding to touch input.

Over the past few days, at least three Pixel users have posted on Pixel subreddits with complaints that could be related: the status bar sometimes fails to show new notifications, and both the notification shade and Quick Settings tiles are sometimes unresponsive to touch input. Each post has comments from users who say they’re having similar problems.

It seems many affected users can see notifications within the notification shade, but tapping them doesn’t do anything. One commenter says they’re able to interact with notification quick actions from their lock screen, despite notifications otherwise not responding when tapped. Another says they don’t see notifications in the notification shade at all.

Google’s aware of the issue(s). The official PixelCommunity Reddit account has responded to each of the three posts we’ve highlighted here to suggest resetting app presets and restarting affected phones in safe mode to determine whether a third-party app is causing the problem. Commenters say these steps haven’t helped, however. User Lost-External-7141 says even a factory reset didn’t fix similar issues on their Pixel 8.

If you’re experiencing problems like these yourself, it doesn’t seem there’s a solution yet. Multiple commenters do say that restarting their phone restores their status bar, notifications, and Quick Settings to normal, though only temporarily. Here’s hoping Google figures it out and rolls out a fix soon.
