Nothing has steadily been building a name for itself as an audio product specialist, and it has now introduced the Headphone (1) Pro, the highest spec headphones it has released yet.
New triple driver audio
At the heart of the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro is a new triple driver architecture. Inside each cup are three drivers, made up of a 40mm bass dynamic driver, a precision driver for mids, and an xMEMS driver for trebles and highs.
To illustrate what this architecture will mean to listeners, Nothing states the 40mm dynamic driver covers the 20Hz to 10kHz range, the precision driver covers the 5kHz to 15kHz range, and the xMEMS driver covers the 10kHz to 40kHz range.
Combine this with efforts to lower distortion, improve bass response, and ensure vocal clarity is sharp and defined, and the Headphone (1) Pro promises to deliver a spectacular sound.
New materials for the body
The Headphone (1) Pro have an aluminum frame, a titanium hanger, and scratch-resistant glass over the cups, which also use plastic in the construction.
The cups have softer ear cushions than the Headphone (1) and are made from fake leather and a nylon fabric. Interestingly, they have an 8mm thin silicon baffle wall inside the foam inner structure, which is designed to improve the seal around ears, glasses, and any piercings.
Efforts to reduce the weight have paid off slightly, with the Headphone (1) Pro’s weighing 327 grams, down from the Headphone (1), but this is still much heavier than most other over-ear headphones, including the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and the Sony WH-1000XM6.
What about features?
The Nothing Headphone (1) Pro has a three-stage, 46db-maximum active noise cancellation (ANC), which is 5db stronger than the Headphone (1)’s ANC, and uses 10 microphones to filter out sound.
Using the Nothing X app, you’ll find multiple EQ profiles, along with a custom option. There’s an unusual studio mode made in partnership with Metropolis Studios, where a physical button switches the Headphone (1) Pro’s audio to a flat EQ for critical listening.
The Headphone (1) Pro are Hi-Res Audio certified, include a spatial audio mode, and feature an IP52 dust and water resistance rating. Nothing has also brought back many of the successful physical controls seen on Nothing’s previous over-ear headphones.
For battery life, the Headphone (1) Pro are expected to last for around 30 hours with ANC on, or 68 hours with ANC off. There’s a five-minute fast charge feature which should return two hours of listening.
Available in silver or grey, the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro are available to buy from September 29 for $399.
