The dream of playing Grand Theft Auto V natively and optimized on your Android phone has officially hit a dead end. Following news earlier this month of an unofficial GTA 5 Android port in the works, parent company Take-Two Interactive has stepped in with a cease-and-desist to shut down developer Paralympics Productions just as the mobile release was nearing fruition.
According to project lead Mojso on X (spotted via VideoCardz), the development group will officially shut down operations on October 3, 2026. In a farewell message to the community, the developer acknowledged receiving a cease-and-desist letter, stating they were “thankful for take two’s mercy” and confirming that this marks the definitive end of both the Android port and an earlier native Nintendo Switch build.
Unlike popular community efforts that rely on heavy emulation translation layers like Winlator to run the x86 PC version of GTA V on Android, this project took a significantly more ambitious route: compiling the game to run natively on ARM hardware. This had the potential of offering higher frame rates, lower device temperatures, and proper native touchscreen mapping.
However, this ambition of a native port was precisely what proved fatal. Reports indicate that the project relied heavily on leaked GTA V source code from late 2023 rather than a reverse-engineered engine. Combined with Take-Two and Rockstar Games’ strict modding policies prohibiting the porting of their intellectual property to unsupported platforms, the legal grounds for a takedown were undeniable, and we predicted just as much when we covered the news earlier in the month.
Mojso confirmed that neither the binary builds nor the project’s source code will be released publicly to avoid facing further litigation.
For mobile gamers hoping for a quick trip to Los Santos, the closure leaves emulation and cloud streaming as the only viable (and unfortunately less efficient) ways to run GTA V on their Android phone. It also serves as another precedent that would dissuade dreams of a native GTA V port in the future.
