VGC reports it can partly corroborate MP1st’s claim that Naughty Dog is working on a new Uncharted game planned to follow Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The project has not been officially announced, so its title, cast and release timing remain unconfirmed.
What the report says about Uncharted 5
The report uses Uncharted 5 to refer to the project, but the available information establishes only that Naughty Dog is reportedly making a new game in the series. MP1st reports that Shaun Escayg is directing it; VGC identifies Escayag as the director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Escayg also briefly left Naughty Dog to lead Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers, according to VGC. His reported involvement would put a series veteran at the helm, but neither Naughty Dog nor Sony has confirmed the project or its leadership.
The possible story direction is just as uncertain. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End ends with Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher’s teenage daughter, Cassie, discovering relics from their parents’ adventures, which leaves room for her to take a leading role in another game.
That remains speculation, not a confirmed character plan. MP1st reports that Nathan Drake will appear in some form, but it has not established whether he would be the protagonist or a supporting character.
The reported release order also puts Intergalactic first. VGC says the game is not expected to launch until next year at the earliest, meaning there is no near-term timing to attach to the rumored Uncharted project.
A return after years away
The report would mark a return to one of Naughty Dog’s defining PlayStation series. The studio has not released a mainline Uncharted game since A Thief’s End in 2016; The Lost Legacy followed in 2017 as a standalone spin-off.
The series has had later releases, including Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PS5 in 2021 and PC in 2022, but no new Naughty Dog entry. In 2023, studio president Neil Druckmann said the team considered its story complete and was moving on. VGC also reports that recruiter Christina-Marie Drake McBrearty later referred to building future teams for the franchise’s legacy.
What to watch for next
For now, there is no confirmed title, release date, platform announcement or protagonist for the reported game. Any further details would need to come from Naughty Dog or Sony; until then, this is a notable rumor, not a formal reveal.
