TL;DR
- Now On Wrist brings your Pixel’s Now Playing results directly to a Wear OS smartwatch.
- It can show detected songs through notifications, a watch face complication, and a dedicated Wear OS tile.
- The app is available now on Google Play and works with Wear OS 3.0 or newer.
Hearing a great song and having your Pixel identify it automatically is handy, but checking the result still usually means reaching for your phone. That feels a little clunky when you’re already wearing a smartwatch, which is where a new app called Now On Wrist comes in. It fixes that disconnect by bringing your Pixel’s Now Playing results directly to Wear OS.
Now On Wrist doesn’t actually turn your smartwatch into a music-recognition device. Instead, it relies on the ambient music recognition happening on your phone, including Google’s Now Playing feature, and sends the identified song and artist to your wrist.
From there, you have several ways to keep tabs on what’s playing. The app can send a notification and haptic alert whenever your phone recognizes a new track, with multiple vibration patterns available if you want something more subtle or noticeable.
Better yet, you can add the currently recognized song to your watch face using a complication, so checking the track can be as simple as glancing at your wrist. There’s also a dedicated Wear OS tile that shows more information and lets you access recently recognized songs.

Tapping a track can open it on your phone in YouTube Music, Spotify, or your preferred music app. Because the watch keeps a history of recognized songs, you can still find something you missed while it was playing. Early users seem happy with the setup too, saying it works perfectly for them.
This comes as Google has already turned Now Playing into a standalone Pixel app. But despite that expansion, Google still treats Now Playing as a phone feature, and there’s no official sign yet that it plans to bring the experience to Wear OS. That makes Now On Wrist a welcome bit of gap-filling, especially when a smartwatch feels like such a natural place to glance at whatever song your Pixel has just identified.
Interestingly, Apple’s new Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 can automatically identify nearby music using Shazam and surface the results right on the wrist, essentially borrowing one of the Pixel’s best tricks. But until Google follows suit, it’s great to see an independent developer filling that gap for Wear OS users.
Now On Wrist is available to download on Google Play. It requires a Google Pixel or a phone with compatible ambient music recognition and any smartwatch running Wear OS 3.0 or newer, meaning it isn’t limited to the Pixel Watch. The app is also ad-free, and its developer says it doesn’t record audio, collect, or upload user data.
