You can’t go wrong with a controller if you want the best gaming experience. It’s easy to recommend if you play for multiple hours a day. You have plenty of options, and everyone has different preferences. We think this 8BitDo one will offer everything you need, especially if you’re looking to play more casually.
The 8BitDo Pro 3 controller features a classic design and also comes in a few colors that should invoke a tinge of nostalgia. The $70 price tag is steep, but the 33% discount from Woot makes it a bit easier on the wallet right now, dropping it to $47. We think this one delivers a ton of value and is worth taking a look at.
Your phone and tablet can become your dedicated gaming device
With phones and tablets being so powerful, it just doesn’t make sense to carry around a dedicated handheld gaming device anymore. Sure, it’s not a one-to-one replacement, but it can handle most of what you’re looking for.
To bolster the experience, a physical controller is an absolute must. The 8BitDo Pro 3 features TMR joysticks, hall effect triggers, and non-linear triggers. It also has customizable R4/L4 back buttons, a D-pad, and swappable magnetic ABXY buttons.
You can even swap the thumbsticks for ball-top caps. If all of that wasn’t enough, the 8BitDo Pro 3 comes with a charging dock. When you’re not playing, just pop the controller into the cradle, and it will be ready for the next gaming session.
I’ve used quite a few 8BitDo products, and most of them have been quite good. They pair with most devices, making them highly versatile. The same applies to the 8BitDo Pro 3, which can be used with Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Steam OS, Switch, and more.
