How To Break The Sage Sigils In Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

Getting all four Virtues in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse to unlock the path to the best ending is no mean feat, and the trickiest required Arcana to get is by far the Sage. To get it, you need to free Eleanor of Acquitane from her mirror prison. Clues hidden around the castle reveal that these save point mirrors act as a pocket dimension, but there are a handful that have sigils on them.

There are two reasons for this. Some save points are hidden in really hard-to-reach areas, while others are in places that can be easily overlooked and cumbersome to find later on. On top of that, your job is not yet over once you break all four Sigils. So if you want the best ending

The Entrance to the Hall of Mirrors is deceptively close to the big central room, but you need to take many detours to unlock it.

Where to find the Hall of Mirrors entrance

If you are following the Alucard Paintings, you should know by now that there are two sides to the Main Hall area. Travel toward the southeastern point, and eventually you’ll find the mirror containing Eleanor of Aquitaine. She’s a bit miffed about being imprisoned, but also gives you a massive hint to kneel before her. This is how you enter the Hall of Mirror portals, found in every save room: hold down the down button until you warp to the next area. This is a handy fast-travel tip, particularly if you hate backtracking!

Sage Sigil locations

However, before you can enter this particular mirror, you need to find and break the four Sigils sealing Eleanor away from the outside world. If you want to free her, you’ll need to find all four. Thankfully, a clue found in the Clock Tower shows a sketch from Talos, revealing all four areas you need to visit.

Once you’ve found a save with a Sigil in its mirror, hold down to warp into it, then attack the lock above the mirror. Some enemies will come to defend it, so quickly kill them and break it open. Here are the four Sage Sigil locations:

Paris Streets – Prison Tower – This is the mirror closest to the Joan of Arc boss fight and requires no special abilities to reach.
Main Hall – Archives – This one is on the other side of the Main Hall, close to the top of the area. The nearby door to the other side leads to Alucard’s Tower. To reach the save point, solve the lever puzzle to its left so the bottom row isn’t blocked off.
Clock Tower – Mechanic’s Ascent – This is the mirror near the left-side shortcuts leading to the top of the tower. If you are following the directions in the Clock Tower guide linked above, you should reach this Sigil.
Notre Dame – East Gallery – You can reach this area once you have the smash attack, double jump, and dash abilities. Cross the gap leading to the Giant Organ from the highest point you can, then venture east until you see a breakable floor. Continue onward and use all the abilities to cross the spike traps and Chaos Shards all the way back until you can drop through the floor. Go left in the next room and down to the left to open a shortcut, then head right and up until you see the path to the save point.
The Hall of Mirrors is the most confusing area in Castlevania history.

Tips for navigating the Hall of Mirrors

Your job is not complete yet. As it turns out, there’s another being in the mirrors that kidnaps Eleanor, forcing you into the mirror dimension. This is a long and very confusing area; the directions on how to reach the Temptress Arcana boss are enough to scramble any brain, no matter how wrinkly it might be. Instead, here are some tips:

  • If you are ever lost, kneel before any mirror with your true reflection in it to warp to a specific point on the map. It’s near the save point at the bottom of this area.
  • Kneeling before red reflections causes them to attack you, while kneeling before blue reflections makes them point to specific mirrors.
  • If there is a prompt showing Sypha talking, you are closer to the Temptress’s lair and on the right track.
  • The second time Sypha talks, where Rose responds in disbelief that this is her mother, head left, then down past the Peeping Eye. Open the door to the right, then smash the breakable floor in the next room. Head left, and you’ll reach the Recurring Belfry with lots of Haunted Armor and Skeleton Cross throwers. Go down and through the door to the right to warp back on the left side but lower down. Do this one more time, then kneel in front of the mirror to warp to The Descent into Memory, which has a save point and the Temptress’s lair.
  • We recommend the Vampire Killer weapon for beating this boss, as the fire effect helps keep track of which one is the real deal.
  • After beating the Temptress boss, the map reveals itself, enabling you to navigate the Hall of Mirrors area much more easily. Go back to the Holy Innocents’ Cemetery and reach the Tomb of the Noble Queen to unlock the Sage Arcana.
